They wouldn't let us go any further than the front door.
There will be roughly 2 feet of wall above ground on the side and both ends, the back of the house will be almost completely out of the ground. We'll have small windows just above the ground in a couple rooms and of course the door and bay windows on the exposed side. With poured concrete walls I hope that it will be a pretty constant temperature. The basement in our house now is underground on the front and one end of the house and open on one end and half the back. It's cool in the summer and warm in the winter, compared to the top floor anyway.

Actually, I soaked it the hides for a couple days before trying to flesh them and that took almost all of the smell away.
Is this another way of describing an earth-bermed house?
Re deer: as we are the only people outside the county lock-up who don't hunt, all the local deer use our 25 wooded acres as refuge, it seems. Especially as the pipeline people are here, criss-crossing the township with pipe and cutting down a lot of trees in the process. Just not ours - we not-so-politely declined. Our local processor does not keep any venison on hand - he says he isn't allowed. Good luck on the hunt!
