Paying homage to the caffeine gods, this morning I mixed then brewed 2 kinds of specialty coffees into a paste of whole milk,cacao powder, cinnamon & a pinch of cayenne, & a smidgen of stevia. It was a deviation from my normal black coffee w/ coco oil & butter. A little mid-week indulgence, I was never much of a caffeine person, certainly not coffee, only occassional green or white teas, a lil black tea... I've always loved mocha flavored anything...

But PB & this forum got me "hooked" on the idea of morning coffee w/ butter. I can see where caffeine in the morning becomes a habit. I think it's the mostly commonly used drug on the planet, more than alcohol even, if my memory serves me well... I'm enjoying it.

I've od'd ("over done" it) on chocolate in the past. After a breakup w/ a gf years ago I ate a big honking TJ's Belgian bar, I felt sick on several levels after that...

I got my order of those kelp noodles you posted about today and they are really good. They look like rice noodles, kind of translucent, but they are not at all squidgy textured. They are crunchy and good enough to eat right out of the package. I also got some of the "seasnax" that were on the same website. That is the first time I have found crunchy kelp snacks that are made with only olive oil and no nasty chemicals.

Netrition.com for anyone else interested in trying them. They also sell several brands of coconut products that can be hard for some people to find. All at really good prices. I got some Larabars for my Dad and even with the shipping they were still cheaper than the store.

Speaking of kelp noodles, this is how we do iodine at the Birdnest Cafe. That is an ahi steak with a wasabi and ginger rub on it. The fish is on a bed of kelp noodles with peppers, onions, mushrooms and a half jar of tomato sauce (Wolfgang Puck's all natural stuff).

Yeah, netrition has funny bulky weightlifter parody cartoons in their weekly e-newsletters, & great prices on some obscure but quality low carb products. Been using them for almost 2 yrs. Glad that you are happy w/ your order... I think the kelp noodles are better than the store bought konjac ones...

I'm too obsessed w/ food already, in general. These food porn fotos of yours are quite pretty & genuinely savory looking, but for me it'd be too much to take fotos of all my meals. Plus I'm usually hungry to eat, not thinking of posterity unless its a big fancy, pretty dessert tray or brunch type platter (where I go all out w/ presentation.) But it's cool that you & others do it...

Maybe... I'll do ONE foto.... Hehe...

Miles better. The konjac ones have squishier texture and don't soak up the flavors around them as well.

I don't do the "presentation" just for the photos. That's just the way I roll in the kitchen. I usually have a minute or two in between setting the plates out and my Dad getting himself up from wherever he is and getting to the table so taking a picture is keeping myself busy and keeping me from diving in and being impolite by not waiting for Dad.

Oh, I'm going to check out the netrition.com I have not found any kelp noodles that don't make me gag (and I don't have texture issues, generally). I'm lucky to live near Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, but the prices can be high on some products. Thanks for posting about it, I'll check them out.

What is this about butter in coffee? Dear gods, I don't think I could handle that, but now I am compelled to try it out. And coconut oil in coffee? Currently, I generally drink one cup of coffee with a splash of unsweetened coconut milk then transition to green tea.

Yeeeeah. There is this internet guy who calls himself the Bulletproof Executive and who promotes Bulletproof Coffee (actually he is trying to get you to buy his super pricey brand of coffee because it is allegedly more pure and is therefore going to change your life). If someone likes this style of coffee, cool. But, as Choco and I have both pointed out, you can't be drinking a 500 calorie coffee and calling it "fasting" at the same time. My concern also with liquid calories like that is that they tend to get added on to whatever else you are eating for the day instead of replacing something.

This Bulletproof guy supposedly got his ideas from the mountain sherpas who drink yak butter tea all the time and are skinny. They are also carrying lots of heavy stuff on really steep paths in a very cold place. They are not going to an office job and sitting on their butts in a heated building.

But the BP coffee guy write in a very "badass" style and a lot of people just want to be that cool.

Thank you! Well, I'm not badass or cool enough to buy into it. I might try it out for taste and experimentation purposes. I'll stick to my Green Mountain Coffee.
