    looks really tasty!

hawk loves seaweed salad, and had a long conversation with the ladies at the asian market. their english isn't great, but he's so engaging that they spend a lot of time talking to him in their native language, and he speaks o them in a combination of english, gibberish, and whatever language they are speaking to him.

he picked 3 different kinds of seaweed for this week. good stuff.

Then when he told that person whose mom has cancer to fire her oncologist and start taking iodine instead, I just lost it. I get a bit sensitive when it comes to the C subject. Snake oil salesmen taking advantage of desperate and sick people is wrong. Many of those snake oil peddlers work with the unsuspecting help of gullible people like he who should not be named. They whip up the forums and steer business to their gurus. Grrrr. And it's not just benign stupidity. There are people mega dosing with iodine who don't need it and doing serious damage to themselves. I really think maybe it's time to write to Mark about this. This is dangerous.

Yes, the steak was sexy and juicy. I'm a helluva good cook.
Agreed. I'll be honest, supplements are one of my least favorite things and almost made me say "F' primal" when I started. I had read so much about how the WOE was healthy and used whole foods and blah and blah and then boom thread after thread about supplementing with vit D and fish oil and so on and so on. I thought, "Huh, if this WOE is so great why would I need to be taking a bunch of pills?" To each their own on that one, but I'll avoid HWSNBN's latest craze and any others that come down the pike.

sexy, smart, and a good cook? Damn, Paleobird the triple threat

I really need to make the dried seaweed I bought for seaweed salad. I love that stuff, but the ones they sell locally all have soybean oil in them. SADFACE.

Well that's the cognitive dissonance you get when the person explaining the perfect WOE also makes his living selling supplements. He is up front about it and I don't begrudge him a way to pay for his Malibu mansion. I just don't buy the supplements. They have their place for specific problems at specific times. It's all the self-diagnnosing that gets ridiculous. Oh I feel tired therefore I must be hypothyroid and need iodine. Or, oh I'm not losing weight, I must be vitamin D deficient (couldn't possibly be all the non-primal treats). And then the "if some is good more is better" approach to dosages. Some very expensive pee being flushed away.

The dried seaweed I've found has all been REALLY salty (and I like salt). Check it when you rehydrate it. You may want to change the water a few times.

How are you feeling, baby making wise? Is this your first pregnancy? I was wondering if you had any non primal experience to compare with this.

I will keep that in mind. This is the dried stuff. I grabbed it on a lark (herp derp) and I haven't bothered to rehydrate it yet. I'm hoping it doesn't suck!

My stomach was flirting with nausea for most of last week, then on Tuesday I had my first full-scale hour of worship with the porcelain goddess, followed by shaky legs on Wednesday (think: hangover without the fun stuff beforehand), and I'm feeling great today aside from some fleeting nausea. I'm told it can come in waves, so I probably have some more to look forward to. Wheeeeee.

This is my first ever. I have nothing to compare it to. Mom claims when she was pregnant with me she had morning sickness for three months and that it was so bad she was anemic. Ha ha! Oh god. Please no. I have to go to work and that would...make my job very difficult. :P

I am trying to keep as primal as possible, but I'll be honest -- last night that baked potato tasted way better than my steak. It's a sad day when I have to force myself to eat steak, but not completely unexpected; protein can be less important to a growing nubbin than carbohydrates.

My main goal is to keep gluten- and toxin-free through all this, and to not stress about the carbs so much, because that's really all I want right now. Carby carb carbs. Fresh cherries, potatoes, melon, yogurt. It all goes down well. Eggs, steak, and liverwurst...not so much.

Funny. What you're describing about incubating sounds a lot like chemo. Carbs went (and stayed) down really easily but gobs of fat and protein not so much. I wonder if the stomach's acid balance changes during pregnancy as it does on chemo. The carbs seemed to sop up the extra acid and calm things down.

My cat was very sure it wasn't a good idea when I brought my new dog home. Since The Panther kitty passed away, my dog can't understand why I miss her.

Good to know you are still truckin'. Have a glass of wine for me. I only have some maybe once a month these days. I don't miss sweets or bread or any of that stuff but I do miss my Pinot Noir.

Yes. No. Maybe? It might be too early to judge; I'm only 6 weeks in (well, 7 tomorrow). Yesterday I wanted baked potatoes and that was the best thing on my plate and all I wanted for nourishment. Tonight it was a hamburger patty, sliced avocados, and very bitter greens. No need for a potato or starch.

I think it's fair to say at times this feels like a sickness, and I suspect that's why foods like white potatoes, yogurt, and crackers are well tolerated. That's what you eat when you're sick. It's what your body tolerates, because your body needs easy energy.

There is a ton of pressure to just "loosen up" and eat "whatever it takes". Even on these forums. But the last thing I want is complications from a diet incompatible with my biology. I've been keeping a running tally, and even with my increased carbohydrate intake, I'm still eating lower carb than most ladies. I'd like to keep it that way, if possible. So far, so good!

Babble babble babble. Show us some more photos of a steak so I can come back in a couple months and drool over them!
