Just Recieved Blood Work
I am 46 year old female and have been mostly primal/paleo for about 8 months. We just finished a Whole30, so I went to the local lab and had my blood work done. My total cholesterol kind of shocked me, but I know that certainly doesn't tell the whole story. I don't know whether some of these things are good or not because I don't know either what they are or what a good score is. I would appreciate any comments, especially on the values relating to VLDL, Lp(a), IDL, and those Apo thingys. Thanks in advance.
Direct-Measured Cholesterol Panel
Total LDL 179
LDL 4+3+2+1 147
Total HDL 76
Total VLDL 19
VLDL 1+2 6.7
Total Cholesterol 274
LDL Density A
Apo B 123 (I don't know what these are)
Apo AI 186
Apo B/AI ratio .66
Hemoglobin A1c 5.1
What did you eat the day before your test ? Last meal ?
Pattern A = fluffy
Your A1c = excellent
HDL = excellent
LDL = excellent (best 120-160 for strong immune system)
Triglycerides = Best below 150 BUT...primal folks usually have this around 30-60. Below 70 is ALL fluffy pattern.
Tri/HDL = excellent
LDL/HDL ratio = excellent
People with cholesterol above 220 live longer as long as you have Pattern A.
Cholesterol acts as an Anti-oxidant...on top of MANY other functions.
