Arrow root is also where tapioca comes from as well. It can be found in bags at Whole Foods.
I've pretty frequently found arrowroot in spice bottles. I have found it in bulk at our local food co-op for much cheaper. My son has had a corn allergy for the last four years so we made sauces with arrowroot or roux. Tapioca makes kind of slimy sauce. Other options are rice or potato flour. Depend on whether you are simply gluten free or grain free. You can also make reduction sauces where you simply simmer your sauce/meat juices until they are concentrated and a bit thicker.
Edit: We don't have a whole foods up here so I don't know what they carry, although we do have a Trader Joes.
This is what mine looks like where I purchase arrowroot:

Look near the Bob's Red Mill stuff (my stores group everything together), usually on the baking aisle

Thanks, I did. I called our local Trader Joe's and the only Bob's Red Mill they carry is Flaxseed. Glad I didn't go over there. It just seems so strange, arrowroot is so common. We have at least 3 other large markets here, I'll have to try them or maybe a health food store.
