Praying for the situation with hubby........

I think I'd power through the intense detox period to get it over with. I'd rather feel really bad for a brief period - then sorta bad for a longer period.

Do you ever roast your veggies? I've been doing that a lot and I can't believe the difference in the flavor - especially if you let them really brown before you turn them!

    As per Marcadav:
    Do 30-60 days clean primal.
    No grains, sugar, alcohol.
Eat 3 meals and primal snacks.
    Don't track food.
    Don't tweak.
Don't expect issues to go away quickly. Instead, just follow the plan and see how things play out.
Decide on an exercise plan you can/will do consistently during the 30-60 days and then do it.

I occasionally roast my veggies. If I'm throwing something in the oven, I'll fill up the rest of the space with other veggies. I should probably do it more often. With the cold weather here, I probably will. Not going to happen much in the summer, I can promise you that!

Still very draggy today, spent most of the day phoning relatives I hadn't talked to in too long, and have a friend coming for the evening. I didn't want to get down in the dumps. I think for this week I will cut out the magnesium. Too much stuff going on this weekend. And then I will try every other day, and then decide if I want to go full-bore for a while.

On the menu tonight, MDA's slow-cooked coconut ginger pork, nuked beets and a green salad. I had a cottage cheese salad for brunch and have been snitching pork all afternoon... Haven't moved hardly at all. No wonder the scales aren't moving. They aren't going up either, but I'm not in the mood for depriving myself much, so they aren't going down either.

I do appreciate the prayers. It might be a long while before there's news, I'm afraid. At least if it's good news. Bad news could come quickly... I'm at peace with either, really, but I obviously prefer good. The bad could be a door into something good, even better, which is probably why I am at peace with that too.

Hope the hubby's job situation calms down with positive results.

Regarding the magnesium. When do you take it? I find magnesium makes me feel sleepy about a half hour or so after taking it so I take it at bedtime. If you don't take it at night, that might be something to try? Good luck.

Will keep you both in our prayers. Let us know once you can - don't envy you having to take magnesium - I use a topical gel, of course that is not what you are needing, but I am a baby when it comes to dealing with the bowel side effects of magnesium. Hope you can get it figured out and get back on an even keel soon.

Coll - I have the same troubles with magnesium. I can't take it or I have to spend a lot of time in the bathroom!

Judg - love your attitude about the job situation with for the professor. God is still on the throne - and He's got a great plan.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts, ladies.

Jenn, that's an idea, to take the magnesium in the evening. It's been two days since I've had any, and I'm starting to feel better again. The last week I've been waking up feeling tired and depressed, which was no fun. How on earth did I live like that for so long? I think when I start up with it again, it might be just once or twice a week to begin with. I'll play it by ear. I don't find it loosens me up too much, unless I'm taking major doses.

Anyway, the other good news is that the scales finally budged a wee bit downwards. 143.4 today. And that's another thing I will be playing be ear now. I think I might revise my goal to be about 140, and then just take it one pound at a time. I would like to be trimmer, but that might be better accomplished by improving my physical condition than by pushing the scales further down. The physical activity also took a major hit over the last week - while I did get some walking in, that was about it and not every day.

For those who care, yesterday's food was a bowl of peeled apple chunks (Tomi got me to wondering if apples are easier to digest if they're peeled - I think so) with cinnamon and nuts and cream and a wee drizzle of maple syrup. Then for the second meal I made a soup with a few root veggies, some kale, and some of the pork and broth from Monday's meal. It was absolutely yummy. There's another bowl in the fridge for today. Apart from that I just had a small snack of coconut oil with a dab of apple butter and cinnamon and allspice. Also very nice. I haven't eaten today yet. I'm trying for another meagre day, so my weight won't just bounce right back up again.

I will probably be scarce in the forum for the next few days. If I can, I'll get around to your journals bit by bit over the course of the day, but I have a lot of catching up to do around here. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends! May you find just the right balance between celebrating and staying the course!

I take my magnesium at night. It relaxes me and the other side effects are taken care of in the morning. Thank you Judg for your Thanksgiving wishes. Enjoy your days off.

Hope you've had a good few days without being too wiped out! Looking forward to hearing how you're doing ... had a lovely quiet Thanksgiving here with delicious 100% primal food .... now if I could just lose some weight too Decided to take a tip from you and get very focused with my eating for a few weeks and then take a break and consolidate. Sounds more doable than going full steam all the time - just can't keep it up.

Coll, that sounds like a plan. I have never been good at long-term effort either. I need time to just coast. And I suspect that most of us are that way.

We had a lot of family activities and by Sunday I was wiped. I spent the day at home very quietly.

I did pretty well in the eating department, with a little minor cheating which I consider a healthy part of celebrations. I passed on the homemade lasagna (*sigh* but I am honestly still a little scared of what might happen to me) and on all the high-class pastries. I did eat too much good stuff (roast beef, salads, antipasto, various marinated veggies), did not worry about unhealthy oils, and snitched some of the white chocolate decorations off the cake. It wasn't much, but that way I got to participate a bit. I had considered making something more primal to take for dessert, but I was too busy chasing grandsons. And then two of my daughter's white chocolate mints when she came over. Funny, they were very yummy, but two was enough. Funny how when you give yourself permission to cheat a little bit, and savour it slowly, you don't feel compelled to keep stuffing them in your face. At least I don't. Perhaps because it is not a caving, but a deliberate choice.

First snow greeted me this morning. Brrrr. But honestly, I really like the brightening effect at this very dark and grey time of year.
