I love the water too, but mostly to wallow in, I think I'd make a good manatee or a hippo maybe... Since we are choosing our aquatic alter-egos. :-)

Swimming sounds like so much fun - it has been a looonnng time since I was comfortable enough to be at a public pool in a swimsuit! Maybe next summer... That book sounds intriguing. What kind of stuff do they say? Maybe I should see if the library has it

It's funny, the thing holding me back was appearing in my swimsuit and being in a locker room - I guess I'm pretty modest. But after the initial horror show was over, I got over it. For one thing, there are lots of people who look worse than me. For another, who bloody cares? I think most people are too busy worrying about their own cellulite to gawk at mine. Now I walk around naked in the locker room and don't even think about it.

The book is about using your core strength to swim rather than flailing your arms around. The power comes from your hips, the rotation of your body, and momentum; also streamlining your body to decrease drag.

I felt this exact same way this summer at the beach. I live within walking distance to the beach and I never went before this summer. My cousins have a house at the beach, and there are two really nice beaches near to where I work. But before this summer, I hadn't been to the beach in twenty years. I just didn't want to be seen in public in a swimsuit. Dunno what changed that, but I'm glad it did change. I went twice a week at least, all summer long.

    I really enjoyed it!

I'm looking forward to hubby getting skinny enough to want to go. If he gets on the swimming bandwagon, he'll drag me along.

Naked in the locker room is something I'm not ready for. I've got a lot more than cellulite going on (my lower abdomen looks like a battle zone) and I'm not prepared to expose that to the gaze of the young and sleek. But I found a pretty modest bathing suit, and I am quite comfortable spending an afternoon in public dressed like that, even with the young and sleek around. I'm not trying to compete with them, I just don't want to look ridiculous, and I do feel that I have achieved that.

Ok, once I can fit into my non- maternity swimsuit I may just try to find a swimming pool nearby. Might as well make the most of being close to town for a change as I am sure we will be moving quite a ways out once we are able to buy... And I really need to teach the kids to swim ... my shyness and embarrasment has held them back from learning Need to get over it - especially if you guys are doing it too!

Was getting ready to go to the pool, looked at the schedule and discovered there is no lap or open swim this afternoon. It's some kind of class. I could go, of course, but doing CW exercise in a pool full of strangers sounds kinda like torture. I'm being very close-minded, of course.

Had eggs and hot dogs. I'm losing my taste buds! I can't really taste stuff. I've noticed this recently. What's up with that?

A couple of days ago I realized Slim Cat is always hanging out on the washing machine, so I put an old blanket on there for him - now he is camping there all of the time. It is behind a screen, and has a window over it. It's funny, it is like his own room or something. BW Cat follows me around hoping for food handouts and jumping on my lap every time I sit down. Funny how they are so different.

I thought about you this morning, You had mentioned your cats would attack you if you opened a can of sardines.

This morning I was putting my lunch together, kippered herring over salad, and when I opened the can, Fatkitty came racing (well, for her it was racing) over and jumped up onto the kitchen table in one great bound! I was stunned! She was a rescue so we don't know how old she is, but is at least 12 years old, and spherical in shape. The effort involved in that jump would be roughly like me running and jumping onto my back porch roof! I haven't ever seen her behave like that.

I gave her some. She deserved it.

Haha! Good for her! When I was very young, I remember our elderly cat leaping on top of the refrigerator to get at some fish that my grandmother had placed up there to thaw out. Cats...fish...

A bit of a coincidence because I had fish for dinner tonight. Fresh wild-caught hake was on sale, so it made its way into my shopping cart. I doused it in coriander and olive oil and baked it in the oven for 10 minutes. Then I poured some of the panang sauce from last week over it. Delicious. (Would you believe I still have panang sauce left? I've gotten four meals out of it!) To my surprise, B&W Cat consumed a large piece of the fish so adorned.

Also had broccoli slaw with homemade mayo. B&W Cat did not eat the slaw.

    Missed swimming today.
