LOL @ Siobhan! I don't think I've ever had them.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE ground cherries. We call them Cape Gooseberries back in SA - I have a few pathetic little plants in my garden that have never really gotten going this year, for some reason - planted too late maybe. Once we have our own place we will plant a whole slew of those - there are never enough of them!

More and more, our life has been governed by specialists, who know too little of what lies outside their province to be able to know enough about what takes place within it.

Missing you.
Ground cherries were on the menu at the restaurant I ate at last night. We didn't stay for dessert, so I didn't try them, but I was curious (haven't heard of them before).
I'll be back here at the end of October, maybe I can try them then (unless it's a seasonal speciality).

I would think they would be a seasonal thing - they are a typical berry that doesn't keep well... unless someone has some in a green house...

Well as luck would have it there's a pint of them in my CSA box! How did I go 52 years without hearing about these?

I just tried one, or two, or three... Anyway, they are good, mine are tiny in a little dry hull (like a tomatillo) which I removed. They are yellowish and sweet, not tart like a cherry but more "meaty" or something. It's sort of hard to describe. SWMBO and boy don't like them, so perhaps they are an acquired taste. I have already acquired it. Yummm

Hey, I missed you! Everyone!
Update: Eating primal. Swimming a lot. Checking myself for scales and gills. None yet. Weight same. Happiness same. Eating too much the past couple of days, primal but still! Been hungry. Back to journaling here and my food also.
Had an exciting moment in church on Sunday. Worked Saturday night and showed up for choir rehearsal at 9 AM, pretty knackered but didn't want to miss out. The following conversation ensued:
Choir Director: Hey, Siobhan, you want to sing the descant? Joan (star soprano) had a family emergency and Mary (back-up star soprano) has a bad cold.
Me: The descant? Solo?
CD: Yes
Me: The one in Latin? With the key change AND time signature change?
CD: Yes
Me: Sure
What was I thinking? What the haitch was I thinking? So I sang it, and it went okay. Pretty well surprised everyone as we don't have a lot of changes normally - the same people sing the flashy bits.
So - I'm back with all my amusing anecdotes and charming observations.
