    Aloe Vera Juice for Heartburn?

I have terrible heartburn, and I've been on Prilosec for 1 month. I want to go off it now, and take something natural, so i'm thinking about aloe vera juice...I've googled it, and it seems there are some adverse effect But also some good benefits! Anyone here take it every day and can recommend it?

Oh, and i've also started taking raw probiotics. I'm open to ANYTHING that will stop the indigestion.

    Any ideas?

I've used aloe vera juice for IBS but it didn't do anything for my heartburn. What has worked is a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar... usually in a half glass of water.

Of course now that I've been primal for a month, no more chronic heartburn!

+1 ACV in a glass of water works instantly for my husband on the rare occasions he gets heartburn.

Here's an explanation of why it works:

Yeah, my heartburn is gone, too. What are you eating that gives you heartburn? Can you stop eating it?
Steak, eggs, potatoes - fruits, nuts, berries and forage. Coconut milk and potent herbs and spices. Tea instead of coffee now and teeny amounts of kelp daily. Let's see how this does! Not really had dairy much, and gut seems better for it.

No particular kind of food, it just happens all the time. Sometimes after drinking water! I thought maybe I had a hiatal hernia, but my crappy doctor just prescribed prilosec and called it a day. She wouldn't refer me to a gastro specialist.

She does sound like a crappy doctor! Prilosec should NOT be used as a long term solution. It is linked to loss of bone density (due to altering absorption on nutrients in the gut) and increased risk of stomach cancer. It is often a quicky fix for doctors who are too lazy to look for other solutions (treat the symptom, don't address the underlying issues).

My PA did the same thing for me years ago, and I finally kicked the Zantac habit earlier this year. I too was getting heartburn from everything under the sun, including water. FYI, cold water is even worse so drink it at room temperature when possible.

Anyway, after eating primally for 3 months, eating less than I used to, and cutting out caffeine and carbonation, I am almost heartburn-free. I still take Tums occasionally but that's usually do to eating too much or drinking too much water.

As for alternatives to medication, I have used apple cider vinegar, papaya extract, and baking soda (on IF days) with some success.

Kick that Prilosec to the curb. What is *will* do, is stop any more gastric juices secreting, and therefore, inhibit digestion. Then you won't assimilate any of your nutritious food, and THEN you won't crap properly.

Been, there, done that! Bought the shirt!

I second the ACV in water. Also, try a little baking soda in water. NOT with a meal though. Then you'll alkalize your tummy, and we don't want that!

Thanks for your suggestions! I knew I wasnt going to get any real care from her, when she came into the room, PANTING, cuz she was so heavy and out of shape. Needless to say, I did not mention my Primal diet. I knew it would fall on her CW deaf ears.

As I lose more weight, i'm hoping my gut gets back to normal. In the meantime, i'll try the ACV and baking soda.

    Thanks again!
