I've noticed that my blood sugar is starting to trend up now that I am laid up with the knee - although I am not changing the way that I eat. Tells me how important exercise is for reducing insulin resistance and for keeping blood sugar in the normal range. The knee is much better so I am going to work around the yard and garden this weekend - still wearing the knee support, taking breaks to ice and rest, and taking it easy in general. I hope to resume my walks next week sometime - with renewed appreciation for the opportunity to be active. I have been seriously considering getting some PT for the knees again - and while I still hope to avoid knee surgery, I am also seeing that it may be something worth doing some day if that's what it takes to allow me to stay active.

Great job working your plan. Sorry about the knee. I hope you are back on your feet soon.

Thanks, Paula. I have gotten a lot done this weekend in the yard and garden and the knee seems fine despite the extra activity. Of course, I am still icing a little and using support - plus the MSM. I think I should be able to go for walks this week if I don't overdo it.

Yep, there is no doubt about it - change is afoot in my life and the weight is definitely trending downward! 178.4 this morning. I was able to go for a walk yesterday evening - about a mile. And, as soon as the vet clears my dog for travel, I am headed for my home in the South. More family things going on and it looks like I will be shifting my residence from mostly in MI, visits in the South to mostly in the South, visits to MI. And, of course that means that I also have to find new doctors, and that means probably long drives out of town to major cities. Oh, well - at least I am now retired so I can prioritize my health that way if I have to. There is also a decent fitness center in my town there so I'll renew my membership. Life goes on......

Oh, and I don't spend much time online on the road or in my home in the South so I will only be posting here infrequently - but I will be checking in as often as I can.

Oh, happy day! I just spoke with the nurse at my new DO in MI and she says that they have clients who live all over the country and visit the clinic once a year. I can get the testing done wherever I am and they will get the results and we'll have phone consultations and they'll mail prescriptions! I'll be seeing them in the fall my next trip to MI. So, now all I have to do is to get a regular physician near my home in the south and get a fitness membership and I'll be set!

Today is the first day of my three day road trip home to the South. Although it was a good day on the road, we (the dogs and I) are glad to be off the road in the motel for the night now. And, I discovered a primal friendly option for a meal - which other than some nuts is the first thing that I've had to eat today. When I travel alone with dogs I will get take out from a drive through window so I don't have to leave them. So, I went to Wendy's hoping for a decent salad and I found one. Their BLT cobb salad even has a slice of real bacon - and I'm going to ask them to add more next time. I brought my own salad dressing with me and the combo tasted pretty good.

Although I am tired, I am not any more tired than I used to be on a road trip where I loaded up on caffeine and carbs - which of course meant lots of gastric upset on the road. I'd rather fast for three days than to eat ANYTHING that may risk upsetting my stomach. But, thankfully that won't be necessary now that I've discovered a decent option with this salad.

You are coming to the south the right week--at least in my corner it has cooled off again, temporarily. Glad your traveling is going smoothly so far!

I agree! 70's all week, even some much needed rain (well, here, anyways.)

Left early and arrived early at our day 2 destination. I break up the 1200 mile trip into three days and two nights now. Easier on me and the dogs. I use to drive straight through (don't really sleep well in motels and all that shlepping of suitcases, etc is a pain) But, I've changed my ways after the first of these trips with dogs. Too hard on them, for sure. So, now we take our time, stop to smell the roses (and sniff whatever) and have more fun. Today I decided to have one diet coke when I was getting too fuzzy for safe driving - and it did the trick and didn't kill me. Now that I am 100% caffeine free all the time, just a few mgs of caffeine works wonders. I might get a bottle of caffeine tablets for future road trips so I can skip the artificial sweeteners, etc in the Coke.
