I think healthy elimination habits can vary widely. I usually go every other or third day now, which is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Odille, and yet all indicators are that I am in fine shape with my digestive tract. (Except when I eat what I shouldn't. Then things start showing up pretty quickly and more frequently.) I did keep a chart for a while, using the BSC. It was really informative, 'cause let's face it, how many of us can remember two weeks of bathroom events?

Good Monday Morning! Wow - lots of stuff to read through and "glean"! Thanks ladies. I'll take a look at the poo links. I'm not sure about the tracking - I've done that in the past and come up with no pattern or connections to any type of particular food. Many years ago I was down to eating oatmeal - thats the only thing I could eat that didn't make me sick. Still thinking it could be parasites.

Judg - I will do some experimenting with your suggestions for dressing and dips. Guac sounds good!

The weekend was busy for sure. Hubby ended up working till 2 on Saturday, then we made a Costco run and crashed for the rest of the day. He was a tired man after getting up so early - he was at work at 6 am! Sunday was planned to get the boat ready to put in the water - we started early (didn't go to church), but our plans all got derailed when hubby discovered he needed to replace the ignition coil - but the parts store didn't have the right one. Then, a customer called saying his boat was not running right, so we needed to go up to the lake and take a look at that. We ended up towing my brother in laws boat up and putting it in the water instead of our own! Then after about 3 other unplanned excursions we finally got home at 9 pm. So --- my diet wasn't exactly the greatest. I had to make some difficult food choices. When you're towing a 25 foot boat behind a king cab truck you don't have a lot of options for stopping to eat - they don't make parking lots to accomidate big rigs! We ended up stopping in a large gas station lot that was next to the Hawaian Grill and lunch was a teriyaki chicken with rice on the go. I thought I was making a pretty good choice considering my options. But, with the day going sideways as it did - the choices for dinner were even worse. The only places to eat up near the lake are fast food places, and by the time we got done at the lake it was late and they were closing. So we needed to chose quick to fix and easy to eat in the car meals. Hubby and brother in law got burgers and fries - I ended up with chicken strips and fries! UGH! Thats got to the be worst food day of my 6 months of being primal. But - it was only ONE day - and I'm not going to die because I ate poorly. I certainly don't want to think about the calories though. Ok - there, now I brush it off and move on.

Today is doctor appt day. I hate going to the doctor when I'm not "sick". I just feel like something is out of whack. No weight loss despite months of counting calories and keeping logs. I need to see if its something out of balance. Doc says I have to lose weight to lower the CRP but the weight isn't coming off. Yes, I have little cheats now and then - but overall I'm eating healthy and my calorie counts are well under my daily needs to maintain. So - better go shower. I have to go in fasting cuz she will probably want to draw blood.

Not in a very chipper mood today....... would like to just stay in my jammies and curl up on the couch with a good book. Have a good day everyone! I'll probably write a bit more after I see the doc..........

Tomi, sounds like a frustrating day! I've wondered how I would handle a forced fast-food meal. Not too sure yet; I'm kind of leaning toward ordering a burger and ditching the bun. It will depend on the restaurant, I guess, and what the other options are.

Hope today is a little smoother for you.

Judg, I would likely do the same. Probably a double cheeseburger, sans bun.

gosh its a toss up between yucky fast food franken-burger and chicken strips. Both are full of unnatural things. I don't even like the taste of fast food "beef" patties anymore.

Had some muscle aches today - must be from the breading on the chicken strips and the rice I ate yesterday. Oh, I just remembered there was also a small bit of macaroni salad with the teriyaki chicken and rice. I won't be making that choice again. I should have just fasted instead.

Doc visit went quick. A few questions and some tests ordered. I'm doing a saliva test to check hormone levels, cortisol, and some other stuff I don't remember. Getting blood work done for Thyroid antibodies (you can have those?), TSH, free T3 and free T4, Vitamin B12, and D, a CBC, Ferritin, Sed Rate, and IGF-1. If all this doesn't show me anything I'm going to a chinese herbalist for help! Course, I don't know any chinese herbalists so that could be difficult.

So they can find hormonal stuff in your spit? Never knew that...... I wonder why they don't use this test at the endocrine office. I should ask the boss.

Its an absolutely beautiful day! The temp is supposed to reach 80 today! YEAH! The tree's are all leafing out now - that means the big Catalpa tree in our front yard will be blooming soon - and it smells wonderful! Sure does make a mess when all those big white buds fall on the grass though. I'll just have to get out there with the lawn mower every couple of days to keep up with it. good exercise. move slowly often!

My thoughts are all over the place today - having a hard time staying focused. I have many "symptoms" that could point to something being out of whack - lack of concentration being one of them. Just gonna sign off for now....... Need to go to work soon anyway.

Well, duh, skipping the meal altogether is also an option. LOL! Thanks for reminding me of that, Tomi.

I hope the tests help clear things up for you.

You may find The Fiber Menace helpful, and be sure to follow the link to the Bristol Stool Chart (BSC). Initially on my restart I was a bit constipated and trying to eat more fibre. Then I read this and it hit a chord, so I have now been following this for about 2 months and NO bowel issues. I go (stools) 3-4 times a day, just like he says. No straining, everything is wonderful. Initially I thought it was not going to work but I gave it a week, drank lots of fluids and hey presto! The old guts have righted themselves and all is well, I am happily round the 4/5/6 on the BSC.
Analog - read through both articles. But my problems isn't constipation - its the exact opposite. Seems everything I eat gives me diarrhea. High fiber - no fiber - doesn't seem to matter. The only I know for absolutely sure is that I'm lactose intolerant - and if I have milk (cheese doesn't bother me) without taking a lactaid pill -- I'm in serious trouble! Sometimes "call 911" pain! I won't even take a bite of ice cream without a pill cuz I will pay for it! But, I could go 6 months without any kind of dairy and still be sick nearly everyday with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

But I do really appreciate you taking the time to chime in and share the links. I learned that any kind of poo that is 4, 5 or 6 is totally acceptable!

PS --- you might want to warn people not to be eating a meal when they decide to read the one with the pictures of poo! LOL!

May 7 - I've been primal for 7 months now. I honestly don't miss anything grain related - accept maybe the ease of just throwing together a sandwich - or making toast for breakfast.

I didn't eat anything today because my tummy wasn't feeling very good. I managed to go to work - but spent a lot of time in the bathroom. I was very happy there wasn't a lot of work for me to do and I got to leave early. I love having a job with very flexible hours - and and easy going boss.

For dinner I'm having a BAS with chicken tenders fried in coconut oil. Theres iceberg lettuce, carrots, radishes, brocolli, cauliflower, and cucumbers. For lack of a better option I put ranch dressing on top of it - but tried to go easy on the amount. My un-primal very small percentage has always been salad dressings. Judg made some great suggestions and I need to try them - but haven't been to the store to get any ingredients yet. I might try making a ranch-ish type dressing with greek yogurt. Maybe I can find a recipe someplace? I'll google it!

Will do the spit thing on Friday since I'll be home all day. I'm anxious to see what the results will be..........but I think she said it will take a couple weeks to get them. Amazing what you can test for with spit!
