Tools that help to break away from computer

Hello, after a recent visit with a back pain to a neurologist I discovered that my back is not in the best condition at all. This is due to years of sitting in front of the computer, plus me being overweight and a bad posture.

So, I decided to tackle the sitting time first of all. I want

    -to take frequent minibreaks
-to time my sitting at computer so as not to allow it to be more that 3 hours a day

Do you have any suggestions on some computer software that helps with these two things?

I'm also considering standing while at computer too.

I have not used a TVset for almost two years now and have been very proud of myself. But now I see that I just substituted it fully with sitting in front of my computer(

You could also get some boxes to raise your components to standing level so you can switch between standing and sitting, though either way you should take frequent breaks, at least once an hour. Go for a quick walk, go get a glass of water, take the stairs up/down a couple floors if possible, etc. You don't need software tools for this.

Oh - another option would be to set an alarm on your cell phone to go off at a specific interval as a reminder that it's time to get up and stretch!

Do you really need a tool to tell you to step away from the computer?

Plant a garden, even a small one. Trust me, it will die if you aren't all over it at least every other day. Plus, it gives you some good food to eat if you have any kind of green thumb at all. And if you don't, you'll just spend more time in the great outdoors trying to make it work right.

Added bonus: you can post pics of what you grow and annoy the crap out of everyone on the internet. Works for me!
