Thread: I LOVE pizza. page

    I LOVE pizza.

    Primal Fuel
    And I love ordering pizza at work every once in a while! I love to order a nice chicken and spinach thin crust pizza, or sausage and peppers. I did so tonight. I am currently counting this in the 20% category, and don't want to give it up! It fulfills me and leaves me feeling quite happy. It is a nice treat once in a blue moon. Plus, I'm 23 so I can't give up my pizza yet!

    Is there anything though that will reduce the negative effects of eating the pizza? I'm closely monitoring my carbs, and it leaves me around the top end of the sweet spot range (150g) for the day. I get up and walk around my office building after I eat the pizza at a brisk pace.

    Also, how does your body react to carbs when you eat high fat diet consistently? Does it kind of say, "no no this junk won't do me any good, keep moving", or does it make the insulin response worse? Or something else? How does this compare to someone on a SAD?

    If that's the kind of cheat meal you want, go for it. If you see no detriments from an infrequent meal of pizza (acne, inflammation, colds, weight gain, digestive problems, etc.), then enjoy it once or twice a month AT MOST. No need to do it that often if you don't want to.

    You have the right idea about going for a brisk walk afterwards. You might want to workout the next day and maybe even fast until dinner. De-glycyrrhizinated licorice extract, ginger tea, and kombucha tea are all good options after a cheat.

    I don't know the answers to the questions in your last paragraph but I agree that a "once in a while" pizza is ok! For me anyway. I know a lot of Pure Primals will disagree. But I so rarely venture outside the Primal diet that I don't crave fake crap anymore. What kinds of negative effects are you experiencing? I have a couple of great cookbooks plus some online resources that have recipes for alternative pizza crusts. (eggplant, eggs, etc) I just ordered almond flour online (can't freaking find it anywhere in stores!) so I might look for a recipe to make a crust out of that.

    you're 23, i wouldn't sweat it. if you want to get more serious about this though... you gotta cut the pizza. totally up to you!

    as for taking a brisk walk around your building after you eat it, i mean, whatever benefit that yields is so marginal, it kinda makes me laugh a little. sorry. you ate carbs, you stored them as glycogen, most likely. the gluten and chemicals are what should concern you.

    in short, at this point - still being young - it's a question of whether or not the guilt is worth it. and there is clearly guilt!

    It obviously depends on your sensitivity. I've been eating primal for only a few weeks but have already noticed a difference in my mood and energy, and my body just feeling better. Today I ate a Lean Cuisine at work for lunch because I bought it a long time ago and wanted to use it up, not have it go to waste. It was only meat, potato, and carrots, after all. No pasta or rice or any obvious grain. I figured it had a little flour or gluten in the sauce or "meat" but figured it wasn't much, so it wouldn't bother me. Ugh. Was I wrong. I got heartburn, my brain fogged, my back pain (which had been diminishing eating primal) returned suddenly, and my heart was pounding. Maybe that wasn't just the gluten but also the 5 mile long list of unpronounceable ingredients. Still, I was surprised that one little "bad" meal could make me feel so bad so fast. That's obviously never going to be part of my 20% again! And to think, I used to eat this way all day every day! No wonder I spent my whole day feeling like crap.

    if you have any interest in primalizing it, you could try this Gluten-free shredded potato pizza crust recipe - Eat this.

    but of course it won't taste nearly as great as the real thing

    I'm not giving up pizza. But I'm giving up shitty Pizza Hut and other generic delivery pizza. I'll wait and splurge on a hand tossed, thin crust, brick oven pizza with fresh sauce, authentic cheeses and good quality toppings.

    As long as you don't have celiac disease or a really bad intolerance to wheat, or some bad autoimmune disease I'd say "once in a blue moon" pizza is perfectly fine. Life is meant to be enjoyed and by starting a primal eating a such a young age you don't have so much damage to undo. Eat it, enjoy it guilt free, and make 100% sure your next meal is perfectly primal.
