Just read this entire thread - fascinating and very informative, thanks so much for contributing your knowledge on the subject. I don't know my prescription but have worn glasses since age 8. I can function without them (but not drive) and recently have been preferring not to wear them at home when I can avoid it.
My prescription is 6 years old and I can't read at all with them on but for years I've taken them off to read or use the computer. I am just now experimenting with using the laptop just at the edge of blur and it feels easier on my eyes. I've only been doing PB for about a month, it will be interesting to see if my vision changes by the time I'm ready to go get new glasses.
Thanks again, very helpful topic.
This thread and its 6,000 views raised a lot of questions, comments, e-mails in my mailbox.
Since there are many repeating themes, I came to a conclusion to address the largest amount of topics within the scope of a single vision improvement program. It is not something I have done before, please bear with me as we'll undoubtedly learn from this first attempt. Here it is:
I'm putting together a rapid improvement program which will decrease average myopia by one whole diopter- in only 60 days.
I used to say that this sort of program was not possible, since myopia cases vary quite widely. Individual engagement is always unique (highly motivated, where enthusiasm sometimes has to be kept in check a bit all the way to the fully lazy, which require a lot of encouragement). Lifestyles vary. Individual eyesight is very ... individual (myopia degree, age, astigmatism, etc et). Diets vary, response to different treatments vary, the list is endless.
But I've been convinced that we can take the most of the 'averages' and build a program for the most common myopia case. This would be a -4.00 progressive myope, about 35 years old, male, 8 hours per day of near-focus work. Generally healthy with moderate exercise, wearing glasses all day. Motivated and will follow a daily program as prescribed.
In that particular case, I'm comfortable to say that this individual will go from a -4.00 prescription to a -3.00 prescription within 60 days. That improvement will not continue at the same rate, and we are making the assumption that the person was prescribed by standard Western ophthalmology standards, based on annual eye exams. That -3.00 prescription may not quite be a full 20/20 yet after 60 days, but very close.
If you are myopic and have some basic knowledge about your case, you realize that my statement is highly counter to commonly accepted vision care wisdom. In fact I would say that many ophthalmologists describe my assertion (60 days to reduce prescription by one diopter) as flat out impossible.
There is something thing I've learned from this thread. Many of you are interested in vision improvement, many of you are curious about how to do it, and there is a great deal of good will paired with skepticism about the validity of vision rehabilitation (probably due to the many Internet vision scams). I can not address all the questions here in a way that will actually help you improve your vision (I'd say that 90% of what I addressed here would fall under 'interesting' but not 'actionable'). It has bothered me, as I wanted to increase awareness, but if I'm not actually providing meaningful tools for improvement, awareness alone is not worth anything.
So, as soon as I can get it ready, I'm bringing you an actual program to follow. It will be completely free, there will be no 'supplements' sales, no 'prescription discounts', nothing whatsoever to get in your wallet. It will (hopefully), give at least some of you a tangible way to address your vision shortcomings, and learn more about how your eyes work, what stresses your eyes, and how to reverse myopia. My ulterior motive is to further a bit of insight available to you to fix your vision, not continue to abuse it (unwittingly). My other ulterior motive is to continue to create awareness for our distance vision rehab programs. But that's not attached in any way here. Take the 60 day program, experience better vision.
Since this is a first time thing, I'm also including four consultations for every participant (need some feedback to make sure that the format of exercises are fully effective). Because of that though, I'm limiting the course to 100 cases ... I don't think I can handle more than an extra 400 e-mail conversations over two months.

I've signed up. Fingers crossed.
I'm still intending to take your long distance care program, although this summer I'm cleaning up my entire life and want to see what improvements I can get myself through diet, exercise, being outside, avoiding screens etc etc. Once I'm back at uni in September... That's a different matter entirely.
Thanks again Alex, for everything.
What does this mean? How can a -3.00 see 20/20, or even close? Please pardon my ignorance. That -3.00 prescription may not quite be a full 20/20 yet after 60 days, but very close.

I believe he means that a previously -4 D myope will be able to see near 20/20 with only a -3 D prescription. This is the 1 D improvement. To me, ANY improvement is extremely important as I'm approaching severe myopia. Though I may never be out of glasses and I'm at peace with that, I can at least do what's necessary to minimize my risk of retinal detachment which is common once one crosses the threshold from moderate to severe myopia. Anyone with a high prescription reading this thread and not at all enthused by a "mere" 1 D improvement, keep that in mind.
Thank you; that makes sense out of it for me.
I already have severe myopia (-6.5ish), so I don't know if there's any benefit, but it would be worth it to freak out my optometrist.![]()

any kind of a fix in the works for Presbyopia ??? I had 20/20 vision until I was about 48 --- and now I can't see squat without my readers! Currently I'm wearing the progressive lenses, and I hate them! I have an EGG sized focused vision field for up close reading, and I don't wear them when walking or going down stairs cuz I'm affraid I will mis-step and kill myself!
I'm inching my "weigh" down the scales!
