Where's the fat in your shake? Fat is absolutely essential!
I have had a very sketchy morning. I woke up feeling great. I ate a good primal breakfast. I took my children out for tennis practice. We ran 8 laps around the tennis court and hit balls for about an hour. No sunshine, not hot. I came home feeling great. I went to make a protein shake so I could quickly eat something before I went on with my day. Before going primal I was very much hypoglycemic and would need to eat every few hours. I have eating a primal diet for about three weeks now and have noticed the sugar issues diminishing.
I made the shake with coconut milk (100%, no sugar added), a scoop of rice protein powder (can't eat whey, allergic,12 g protein per serving, no sugar), 2 strawberries and two drops of liquid vitamin D. I hadn't taken my suppliments yet and thought I would throw that one in. Fifteen minutes later I felt like I was going to vomit. Sadly this is not a new feeling. If I don't eat and do too much I will get sick and need to eat or else. This situation usually happens if I exercise on an empty stomach but I didn't. I was well fed. Usually it happens during the physical exertion not after it.
I ate some chicken felt a little better but had the sudden urge to lay down and sleep. I slept for an hour and woke up still feeling terrible but better although starving and unsteady. Ate more chicken with some veggies and I feel fairly normal now.
What was that? I have only been primal for three weeks and my body has good days and bad but this was something new. I know my system was really messed up before and I have some fixing to do.
Need wisdom! Thanks!

Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

The coconut milk according to the label had 42 grams of fat. Do I need more?
You're pregnant.
I experienced the same thing today, but it was after I took a high potentcy vitamin on a mostly empty tummy. I CHUGGED my protein shake I had with me and felt better.
How long have you been primal???

Three weeks. I am feeling better this afternoon than I did post protein shake this morning but I have also had to take in more fat this afternoon to feel better. I have had a lot of coconut cream, nuts and avocado. I am surprised how much fat I need. I still don't understand what happened this morning fully. Maybe I needed more fat or maybe my system is so messed up from my previous high carb, low fat diet that I need more time to adjust. I think I will stay away from protein shakes for awhile just in case.
I find that sometimes when I eat a super fatty meal, without warning Ill get sick feeling for like 2 mins. I just eat some protein and feel better. One time I ate bread and that helped just as much as the chicken leg did, LOL.
As for the exercise I HAVE to exercise on an empty tummy, always have. I fast for like 4 hours before or Ill get faint and see spots. No Bueno! I would say just keep you fat about 60% and your carbs under 10% of your diet. See how that goes!

teamommy, about 70-80% of your calories per day should come from fat, and the rest from protein, with minimal carbs (under 20g per day). The carbs are what cause the crash-and-wooziness.
