    Primal Fuel

I am 6'3", age 63, ultra skinny as a kid, became a porker about twelve years ago, hovering at 285 for the last bunch of years. I was 285 in April. Today I weigh 258.

I've been keeping excruciating records of what I've been eating, my activities, and weight for three weeks. I have had days of high calories and low carb, both high, both low, various fat intakes, you sorta name it, I've had a day or three of it.

The evidence is there, practically jumping off the page of my data: Calories at 2000 or less, gross carbs under 50. If either or both creep up, the weight loss stops. As to carbs, exactly what Mark suggests.

I have started adding coconut in the form of fresh or milk recently. It really helps stave off hunger and jacks up my energy a lot.

My exercise has been, at most, walking 3mph for an hour four or five times a week. But even with my recent heel injury and not walking, these results held. (For my weight the above walking regimen is only 150 calories more than sitting reading!)

I feel better than I have in about 15 years. I have energy like I don't recall. My boy boobs are down to training bra size.

    Onward and downward.

I love that you keep saying "my boy boobs are down to training bra size." So awesome. haha.

Seriously though, congratulations on finding what works! I totally understand your excitement because I feel the exact same way. I was never "a porker" but I did get quite chubby in the last couple years (142 pounds up from my most comfortable weight of 117) and it feels so good to be on the way back down, and also having a healthier relationship with food.

Funny you should mention coconut milk. I just opened a can to play with it... I ended up putting a couple spoons in a small glass of water and stirring it up to make a drink. It's tasty but seems like something's missing... how do you drink it? Or do you just use it in cooking?

Eating lots but still hungry? Eat more fat. Mid-day sluggishness? Eat more fat. Feeling depressed or irritable? Eat more fat. People think you've developed an eating disorder? Eat more fat... in front of them.

Oops. I forgot, apparently, that I already used the boy boobs line. Early Onset Alzheimer's, I fear!

When I was a kid and all my friends had chocolate cake for their birthdays, I had coconut. So I have some predilection, I guess.

I just measure out 2 oz in a small measuring cup and drink it. I think I could drink a can of it, easily, if not for the total calories. I have also started nibbling on fresh coconut, weighing the piece before eating it. Into the Fitday, all.

I found two new uses for the milk. One is for salad dressing. I've, in the past, used a 1/2-1 tbl of coconut oil, and then some vinegar. But an ounce of the milk is delish. Pulled pork is a staple in my house, but all that carb/sugar laden BBQ sauce is now off limits. I know there are recipes for no carb sauces, but there was that pork sitting in front of me NOW. Oh, a tbl of coconut milk! Hey, probably not unlike what Micronesians have done for millennia.

I'm sure you are aware of coconut's unique properties as a metabolism booster. Sure seems to be the case.

Do you mean coconut oil + vinegar + coconut milk as a salad dressing? Or coconut milk instead of the oil? Or what?

That's awesome about your coconut birthday cakes. Definitely foreshadowing there. haha.

On another forum, a girl was posting about how she was "taking coconut oil" ... as in, swallowing coconut oil pills as a supplement. I told her to cut it out and actually cook with and EAT the coconut oil... why waste something so delicious by putting it in a capsule?

Sorry for the confusion. CM is loaded with the fat, the oil, already. In fact, if you pour it on cold lettuce, it will congeal right out. But just keep eating! I've not tried it with vinegar. My guess cheap white would be the best to not hide the coconut flavor. Just a guess.

Coconut oil by capsule. What a weird idea, obviously someone just trying to make money from the naive. You couldn't eat enough in a day to do any good.

She was taking like 6 capsules a day... probably enough to at least cook some veggies in. haha.

I might try the coconut milk as a salad dressing... hmm... thanks for the idea. ooh, maybe with some lime juice whisked in. coconut-lime is always good.

Congrats on the weight loss. Personally i think 2000 calories is extremely low for someone that weighs 250lbs. But if you can do it without being hungry and tired then more power to you. Hopefully you don't monkey with your metabolism with the low calories.

I am really wanting to try adding coconut milk to my smoothy in the morning as my current recipe doesnt keep me full for that long...however its quite intimidating to be adding more fat to the diet...but you say it increasedyour energy and fat loss?
