AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! I just vacuumed the living room and found: 2 dirty spoons under the sofa, the jar of cane sugar (I use for baking when ordered) OPEN behind the sofa, pieces of cheese on the ground that left nice little grease spots on my wooden floor now, more grease spots. I've had it with my oldest son! I don't keep junk in the house, so then he'll just eat sugar????? I can't just not buy that anymore, as I need it for baking. Now I can throw away the whole jar (13 ounce is left in there), because who knows how many days it's been there, collecting dust .
I'm thinking that the minute he gets home today I'm going to make him EAT THE WHOLE 13 OUNCE IN ONE GO! And hell I hope he'll be so sick afterwards he'll remember the rest of his life ! Oh, and I also think that he'll be cleaning my wooden floor with a toothbrush . I've had it so much with him!!!

Yup. Make the punishment fit the crime. Make him pay for the sugar too.

Yes, I was a nasty mama. But I figure teaching them responsibility for their actions was one of the most important parts of being a mother.

Oh Candy! I hear your frustration! He needs to learn to take responsibility so go for it!! Pay for a new jar of sugar and clean up. Maybe he could choose between eating the whole 13 oz or giving up something really important to him .... Let us know how it goes! Thinking of you as you deal with him. Kids can be such busters unless we keep on training them not to be!! And sometimes it feels totally exhausting. Judg, you sound like my kind of momma!

My two cents-putting that kind of sugar load into a kid who already has difficulties doesn't sound like a good idea. And with his oppositional issues, could you even do it? Don't put yourself in a situation where you cannot enforce your demand.

I would make him pay for it, though, and clean the mess. What's so hard about eating at the table, after all?

Sabine has an excellent point about the sugar. Making him pay for it is entirely appropriate though, seeing as he ruined it by leaving it out.

I'm with Sabine... that kind of sugar load is good for no one, especially a child with oppositional issues.

Clean the mess, replace the sugar. He has a job now, after all, so he can't play the "I don't have any money" game with you. Sorry for the situation. That would make me so mad as well.

I didn't make him eat the sugar' couldn't do that, but he has to pay for it, yes. Jenn. He HAD a job, but hasn't contacted them anymore after returning from holidays, so still no money . It was good to vent here, so I could face him being lots calmer .
Took another decision today. We have a cleaning lady since several years, because due to the fibromyalgia I wasn't able to do a lot. Now the cleaning lady we had for a few years now has found another job, so we have a new one since a few weeks. This one has worked here twice and has been ill the other 3 times. So I've been cleaning myself. And as I don't have the health and pain issues I used to have anymore I've decided I don't want a cleaning lady anymore. Just wrote a letter to the company providing the service, that as of october 1st we won't need them anymore. But this means the kids will have chores to do! So i'm going to make a planning with who has to do what on which day. That will be interesting...

Jenn, I missed your post, my whole 30 is going great! You can follow it on my blog, where I'm writing everything we eat and even what's in my kids' lunchbox

Excellent responses Candy! Maybe the son who is up to no good should get some extra chores.... When my kids misbehave I help them channel the excess energy by getting them to do work around the house - funny, they often actually enjoy it

Wonderful that you have the health to say you're done with a cleaning service!! I grew up with a maid and it was hard learning how to get all the cleaning done and co-ordinate the housework when I had never had it modeled for me. So glad you are doing well with W 30 too, you have made huge changes in your life and it is paying off. Well done!
