I love your before and after pictures Candy! It makes it more real when you see the photos right next to each other like that! Babies are the best - that smell is so special! I hear you about the not looking forward to doing without the nuts and nightshades etc. But I really hope that you see some good results too. And hopefully you will still be able to have the foods you especially like! I know that eventually I am going to do a whole30 - just not quite yet. Too much on my plate to be adding that too!

If I went to supermarkets that catered to ethnicities that wanted those things, I'm sure I could find just about anything. The ones I go to do tend to have lots of African veggies (yams, plantain, and a bunch of others), Italian veggies (rapini being the most obvious), one has a kosher aisle and kosher meat counter (good for sausages with no dairy), but organ meats, not so much. We do have a big Asian grocery store which is too out of the way for me, and a ton of smaller groceries catering to different ethnic groups - Italian, Arabic, Persian, Caribbean, you name it. Most supermarkets have ethnic aisles, where you can get quite a wide variety of non-WASPy type foods - lot of wonderful stuff there - but the meat counters are a little less adventurous.

Yes, but we did go quite slow. I think once they get used to the road that'll be a good half hour (morning + late afternoon). I'm just happy it's still light outside now when he leaves (at 7.15 am) and comes home (leaving at school at 4 pm), but that'll change soon enough!
So my boys started school yesterday, everything went smoothly. DS1 and DS2 only had half a day, so they were home already for lunch, and DS3 came home for lunch. Today 5 lunchboxes had to be prepaired: DH's and mine paleo/Whole30 compliant, DS2's also paleo, DS3 had 1 slice of bread with his leftover chicken and cherry tomatoes, DS1 few slices of bread and a grainfree waffle (wow, miracle! He prepared a lunchbox!). Luckily DH and DS1 make their own .
Day 1 of our Whole30 went smoothly. I'm cooking double quantities in the evening, so we have leftovers for lunch. DH started his Whole30 with a steak for breakfast . There was steak for me too, but I offered mine to DS2 .
Yesterday we had a guest for dinner, a girl who interviewed me about why I turned paleo. She's studying to become a nutritionist (although she's already convinced that the standard food pyramid is BS) and is training to run marathons. I'll translate the article on my blog and then will post a link . Poor girl, I hope her ears don't hurt today .

I'm also keeping a food-diary for our Whole30 on my blog. I do get a lot of questions from people about what we eat, so now I can direct people to my blog . If you're interested, it's here: http://candyinwonderland.wordpress.com/whole30/

Just saw the pics. Wow! You look great in both, of course, but wow, what a wonderful change. You're looking so healthy and definitely younger. Good stuff!

I have considered starting up a blog myself (again!) to save myself having to answer questions too, but I'm reluctant to plunge into something else that could end up eating a chunk of my life.

Thanks Coll! The interview is on her blog today, but it's all in Dutch. I'm going to translate it on my blog and will put a link here . It turned out great .
Wow, I've been soooo busy last week and weekend, it's unbelievable. This would have killed me pre-paleo , but now I'm feeling great. Whole30 is going smoothly, no carb flu or cravings. I've even been baking cake (ordered), making 'notella', choc chip cookies and waffles (all grainfree) for my kids and didn't even lick my fingers (or the spoon...or the whole bowl) once .

DS2 needed new shoes, as his old shoes "felt a bit funny" (sic). I had his feet measured in the shop, so that we would get the right size and I almost fell off the chair! No wonder his shoes felt funny! He entered the shop with shoes size M7 (EU size 39), he came out with new shoes size M8 1/2 (EU size 42)! That is 3 shoe sizes in 3 months!!! OMG, he has bigger feet than me now, and will soon be taller than me too! He's only 12 , it goes so fast! I can almost see him grow *sigh*.
Yesterday my sister, her new boyfriend and his little son (4 years, cute little boy!) came for dinner. I'm so happy to see my little sister happy and relaxed, how lovely she is with the little boy. I really hope this relationship turns out just right for the 3 of them and her wish (having a family and a baby of her own) may finally come through!!! Lol, it just looks like in our family it's a tradition to have "mixed families", a tradition that started with my mom: I'm her first child, from a different father than my brother and sister (although my stepdad is like my real dad, he's also FINALLY succeeding in adopting me - after trying already 3 times in the past). My oldest child is from a different father, the girlfriend of my brother has a daughter from a previous relationship (living with them) and now my sister has a boyfriend with a child! Luckily we all have enough room in our hearts to embrace also these children as our own.
OK, I have some catching up to do here! I'll go see all your adventures for the past days.

Boys seem to reach a stage where they grow at an incredible rate! I have three younger brothers and they went through so many school shoes at times that my parents used to despair of keeping up! Glad to hear that your whole30 is going so well! Lovely that all those extra kids get absorbed and loved and included in the families! Wonderful - I hope things work out for your sister.

Oh yeah. I bought cheap shoes for my boys until they started wearing them out before outgrowing them. Then the better quality became worth it.

College Son wears size 11. I could go surfing in them.
