About probiotics........ my doc said ONLY buy the kind that they keep in the fridge - in the health food section or at the health food store. If they aren't kept at fridge temps the little bugs just die off - so you're throwing away your money.

Exactly true Tomi. Sorry I forgot to mention that point. Same with fish oils. I used to think it was normal to burp them. Found out they are to be in the fridge also and if you taste them, they are spoiled. It's hard to find good quality stuff that doesn't cost a fortune.

Thanks for quoting me Albert... now experience the black triangle of death and my ignore button...

As for probiotics... i think yogurt does more than just "feed" the gut flora. In the yogurt I just ate, it said it's made with live and active cultures of S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidiphilus, Bifidus and L. Casei. Those are all the probiotics that are listed in the probiotics I saw at the stores. However, I didn't buy any b/c the ones that were available at the grocery store had stuff in them I didn't want - either additional vitamins, or corn starch or other such garbage.

I have a zit on my forehead by my eyebrow and it hurts. Stupid dairy. That's got to be the cause. I went the whole month with zero breakouts and now I have a huge, tender, likely deep zit... awesome. I really think once these antibiotics are done, I'll be giving up dairy again. Maybe I'll have cheese or something when the mood strikes, but no more daily consumption.

I haven't taken my lexapro since last Wednesday. And so far so good. The zaps have been minimal and tolerable. I did have a moment of exhaustive frustration bordering on anger Sunday night when neither of my kids would go to sleep, but I recognized it for what it was and did my best to control it. I recognized that it was just frustration and frustration can be dealt with.

Question about measurements. When you do your measurements, do you "let it all hang out" in the gut area? I usually do, but I almost wonder if I "force" it out as well. Maybe for now on, I'll just stand comfortably and where ever my belly is without consciously sucking it in, etc, i'll measure that. The reason I ask this is b/c I compared my measurements and my belly went up an inch, while everything else went down, so that makes me wonder if maybe I wasn't as "relaxed" and "letting it all hang out" naturally - like I was almost pushing it out or something. So, i'll remeasure my waist and belly and see what I come up with and then just stick to that method each time. Once I get that done, I'll report my comparison.

On the cough front - things are getting MUCH better quickly. My ribs no longer hurt unless I flex my abs, and when I do that, it just feels sore like it's been overworked, rather than painful like something's wrong. The cough is minimal and productive. Last night it hit about 9:00 as I was cleaning up the kitchen and getting ready for bed. The codeine works well... I fell asleep reading Dracula last night. I woke up this morning with every fiber of my being begging to go back to bed. I wish more than anything that I had been able to oblige. Stupid work... it's always messing up my sleep plans! lol There's still a bit of a candida problem and it's quite annoying, but I have faith that it'll go away soon.

I better get moving. Gotta go retake that measurement and then get some reading done for class. I'm a paper behind b/c I was sick last week and didn't feel like doing it. Now I have two papers due for this class, plus all the garbage for my other class. I'll be glad when the next 3 weeks are over and I'm done with these classes!

When I measure, I have Boyfriend do it so I'm not tense at all. I stand straight, adjust my posture as needed, take a few deep breaths, and measure when I'm mid-breath. So there's some slight tension at holding the breath, but I'm not pushing anything out or flexing or sucking in. You can do this yourself, but looking down (when measuring waist) might change the measurement.

ugh, I feel so bloated today. and lethargic and tired and sleepy and not with it. I don't know what to blame on the dairy and what to blame on the medications. And I feel stopped up... Yes, dear sweet, dairy... you may have to take a hike.

As for the probiotic issue, have you considered getting it in pill form? That way you aren't subjecting yourself to the sugars and the side effects of the dairy? I just looked the chobani pineapple flavor up and it has 18g of sugar, 21g carbs, and only 4 strains of probiotics. You'd need to find a good quality brand though. I use Ultra Jarro-Dophilus, which has 40 billion organisms per capsule and has 10 probiotic strains.

Just thought I'd mention it. Speedy recovery!
Kim, I was looking at Amazon for the Ultra Jarro-Dophilus you mentioned (here) and it says it's only 8 strains. I'm sure it doesn't matter THAT much if it's 8 or 10 strains, but I was curious to see if this was the same one you use or if there was a different one I should be looking at.

    Thanks!!

Great timing! I was just stalking your journal and saw your post. I was looking up the one I use to post to you and saw your post to me. (does that make sense?). Anyway, this is the one I use Jarrow Formulas : Ultra Jarro-Dophilus

It comes highly recommended by a doc I see. He owns a lab in Singapore and ships certain products there for testing to be sure they are what they claim to be. He's been a great wealth of information, not to mention he's the one that got me started on grain-free eating in the first place. He's also got a photographic memory. I take him very seriously when he suggests stuff.

Judg, same doc as above says that quality fish oil should be sold from and stored in the fridge. If you ever taste it (when you burp), it's spoiled. I used to have fishy burps all the time, just thought that was normal.

it was pretty good...not as thick as yogurt but tasted exactly the same. I put some cinnamon and blueberries in it and ate it like that and it was good!
