Huh. That is pretty good. I think at one time I was like, 36 in a year. No! I have at least 60 and that's how much I want to lose this year. But now that I know how difficult it can be to get my weight to budge at all, that seems like a huge number. Three pounds a month sounds so doable ... someone slap me and tell me to go to sleep. I wanna keep up with everyone on here, but am running low on time in other parts of the day.

    *SLAP* Go to sleep, Lex!!!

Yeah, 3 lbs per month is just shy of 1 lb per week... and I got to thinking about it a little deeper last night and to be truthful, between January and February, I only lost 4 lbs... the rest of it has been since March 5th. Following the conventional wisdom of diets, I was losing 1/2 a pound a week... Since switching to Primal, I've lost 1 lb per week - twice as much weight as I was losing before. So while it's still "slow" by my calculations, I'm losing it twice as quickly as I was before.

Sometimes it DOES pay to over analyze things.

So my girlfriend at work was googling some weight loss information b/c recently she's put on 10 lbs (medication related binges). I saw what she was doing, so I grabbed her mouse from her, and sent her to MDA. She said she spent all yesterday and last night reading some of Mark's blogs about this and that and she's 100% sold. She says the wheat thing will be difficult because her DF is a conventional farmer, but she's stoked. He said he'll eat whatever she puts on the table but he doesn't care to know what's in it. She's hoping this will help her shed 8-10 lbs and some excess body fat as well as help her 6 year old daughter with her constipation issues. She said she was going to wait until next week to start, but she said she paid attention to how her body felt after eating spaghetti last night and decided to start today. She said the best part is that she doesn't have to kill herself on the treadmill! She mentioned wanting to get the cookbook, so I lent her mine so she can review it first. I love the converts!!

Today I'm up 3 freaking pounds and I don't know why... I haven't done anything to provoke it. I experimented the last two days with whether or not the iodine causes water gain by not using my celtic flush, so maybe it's what it was? I don't know. Could just be a one day thing too. Again, I overconsumed food last night, which I guess could cause the problem, but it doesn't explain water gain, really. Obviously I didn't overeat enough to gain 3 real lbs overnight so I know it's water. Just trying to pin point what could have caused it. I'm just gonna go with it today and see how tomorrow goes. I used the salt flush just in case though...

Today, over lunch, I'm going for a walk with my newly converted friend. I'm excited that she's doing this. My sister-in-law, as far as I know, is also still doing it. I sent her a text to see if she's learning anything of particular interest in the book. I loved the book.

Cough is still kicking my ass. I really am starting to believe it's bronchitis. Using an inhaler now when the big fits come along. I got this inhaler the last time I had brochitis (a couple of years ago) and it seems to be helping a little bit. I'm finding the cough before the inhaler is dry and after the inhaler is more productive, so that's a good sign that the inhaler works... My family doctor is off work tomorrow so if I were to go tomorrow I'd have to see her PA. I'd rather see my doctor. Next Thursday both the kids have an appointment for their yearly well checks and shots (eek!) so if the cough isn't better by then (or doesn't escalate and require an urgent care visit) I'll wait it out and ask her to prescribe something then. I'd really like to give my body a chance to fight it off on its own, but it's starting to make my throat sore and it's disrupting my sleep a little. We'll play it by ear and see how it goes.

    Food for today:

    Breakfast - the usual
    3 sausage links
    3 eggs
    vitamins
    salt flush

    L:
leftover scalloped potatoes and ham (made with primal ingredients, except the cheese... discovered the damn cheese has corn starch in it!! - I imagine that's to keep the shreds from sticking together... may have to start shredding my own cheese)

    D:
Maybe I'll slap together some deer burger/ground pork burgers or something for me and the kiddos. They'll at least eat burgers!

I think one of the biggest problems we have concerning weight loss is "faster is better". I think that's a bunch of bull, personally. It's more spectacular, for sure, and gives a great morale boost when it happens, but in the long run, it tends to be much less successful. I am more interested in the long run. I would rather lose one pound in a month and keep it off, than 10 and regain them. Granted, when I had 80 to lose I would not have been satisfied with one pound a month, but then my body was almost as eager to shed them as I was, and it was easier to drop. Even then, my rate was 8 pounds in 3 months, which is a little less than three pounds a month. And I am very, very happy with what I have been able to accomplish. Hubby was just reviewing photos from our trip to Italy 2 years ago, and our son's wedding four years ago (already??!!) and he says he can hardly believe the difference. Slow is good. The patience pays off. And I will confess to feeling a wee bit smug, when the spectacular weight losers who were being thrown in my face as role models are now fat again, and I am getting more and more questions about my "secret".

So chin up. Losing a lot of weight is more like a long hike than a sprint. Enjoy the scenery along the way. You get a lot of time to savour the little victories, and the many, many compliments, LOL!

I know you're right, but it's hard to be patient when your friends are losing lbs 10 at a time all around you. I know my approach is safer and better, but it's hard to brag that I've lost 15 lbs in 5 months when my sister can say "I lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks", ya know?

I went for a walk with Work Friend and now I'm sweaty under my bra. I hate that. I want to take the fan by my desk and blow it up my shirt to dry my boobies and bra. But I can't b/c there's a guy in my office and that would be less than appropriate... so suffer I must...

I ate breakfast really late (like 10 am) so I'm not hungry for my lunch yet. I almost wish I was b/c it's a tasty tasty lunch. Leftover scalloped potatoes and ham. mmm I'll put it in the fridge (it's in my cooler now) and eat it later or take it home for dinner.

Tomorrow is DS's preschool class picnic. I'm trying to think of things to put in our "sack lunch". Since we will have already had breakfast and lunch won't be far behind, I'm thinking about just taking some apples and celery for dipping in almond butter. maybe some grapes and some almonds. It doesn't have to be a meal since the picnic is at 10 and his lunch at daycare is at noon... I probably won't eat b/c I won't be hungry after breakfast.

After the picnic I'll take the kids to daycare (paying for it either way so might as well use it) and go home and get some stuff done. DH will leave for work about 1, so that'll leave me enough time to get caught up on some stuff. Dishes, laundry, picking up, maybe mop the kitchen, nap... lol I have some veggies to move from pots to the nice plot in my yard that the neighbor tilled for me. so nice of him. That'll be some good sun exposure.

Yep. Tomorrow is going to be a good day.

    Sounds like it. Enjoy.

I've watched family members peel the pounds off too. And yes, it was a bit demoralizing. But they put it back on (except the ones who got surgery). Every time. Sometimes several times. And when I started out, I didn't know if I was going to make my goal or not. But my reasoning was that every pound I lost - and kept off - was a victory in and of itself. It was that much less strain on my heart and joints and that much less to be lugging around. I wasn't doing it to impress others (although I don't mind if they are!) but for my own sake. But people, God bless 'em, are pretty quick to notice when you're taking weight off and to encourage you about it. So I figure I'm a winner, whether or not I ever lose another pound. I still want to reach my goal, but I guess now I'm more confident, so I'm in less of a hurry.

And you are a winner too. You've taken some off, and apart from the normal jiggles up and down, you're not putting it back on. So just continue as you are, and you will get there. And chances are, the people that are doing "better" than you now, will be asking you about your secret. LOL!
