The things that woman does with her thumbs is brutal, but the next day everything feels better - and even better still after about 4 days. As long as I don't do anything stupid like overtrain or fall down the stairs... overtraining likely isn't a problem since I'm not running presently (or doing anything as a result of the leptin reset experiment).

My gut is unhappy today... It's been paying me back all day long for the poor choices I made this weekend. Gurgling and mildly cramping all day. Unpleasant. I'm hoping it starts to get better soon...

Sadly, the only thing I can think of that would be causing actual gut problems in the little bit of macaroni salad I had yesterday. Obviously the macaroni is a wheat product. That is the only thing I had that I know causes gut problems. Otherwise, it was just too much sugar, and the PUFAs in the potato salad and coleslaw I had.

Tonight, since DH decided to play hookie today and go fishing, we're having fresh caught catfish. Yummo. I think I'll make some basmati rice with chicken stock too. I love fish on a bed of rice. Since I went to the farmer's market this weekend, I have lots of green veggies - string beans, sugar snap peas, cauliflower, broccoli. I'll probably do beans b/c they just sound summery and in my mind, pair well with a fishy dinner.

    Back to basics

I have gotten way off course with my diet. I've been binging on sweet crap (last night was pudding cups with marshmallows and heavy whipping cream - at least the cream was primal!). So I'm going back to basics and doing a sort of detox.

I need at LEAST 3 days go rid my body of the desires to eat garbage, and then comes the weekend, so my goal is to be 100% strict for the rest of this week and next weekend. By 100% strict, I mean eating ONLY primal foods. If I need to binge, I can binge on primal stuff, but nothing more. But, before I binge, I want to try to fight it off. I will stop, sit down, shut my eyes, put my head down, and breathe for a few seconds. I will analyze what is going on - am I stressed? Am I bored? Am I really truly hungry? What do I really want? What is my motivation for eating right now?

To get me through, I will have some strawberries, heavy whipping cream and coconut on hand. Coconut was actually what I was craving last night. I had some unsweetened coconut and I had a fresh coconut on the counter, but I wanted the sweetened kind... so I didn't have any coconut. I think if I had some fresh strawberries (that were still fresh and safe for consumption) I would have been more than happy with the unsweetened version... but then again, one of the girls here posted a macaroon recipe which is specifically why I got the unsweetened coconut in the first place... maybe I should make some macaroons tonight. If things go smoothly tonight. DH is on 2nd shift this week and the first few days are usually crazy b/c the kids want to play outside and I want to get dinner done and can't be in two places at once, etc, etc, etc. But I would be excited to try them out tonight! mmmm macaroons! (ps, who had the recipe? I wanna say maybe Candy? but can't be sure)

Anyhow... back to basics. I brought the book with me today to review some stuff. I know what needs to be done, but I think reading the book again (or parts of it anyway) will help me get remotivated to stick to my guns. These binges have GOT to go.

    1. So, my plan is to conquer the binges first and foremost. I'll have healthy primal snacks available for when the binges strike so that if I can't beat them off, at least I'm not gorging on pudding snacks and fruit by the foot...

    2. I'll be going back to 3 meals a day (if needed) to keep binges at bay. My binges seem to mostly occur in the late evening hours - usually after my kids go to bed... I'm sure that the "down time" my kids going to bed causes is part of the problem... but I've also been known to graze all evening long while making dinner. I used to be a stress smoker... now I'm a stress eater and I need to get it under control. I'm not sure if 3 meals a day will control the binges or not, but I'm going to try it.

    3. High protein/moderate fat is the goal as well... I'm not going to aim for VLC, but I will fill up on protein and fat in hopes that I won't want a ton of carbs.

    4. Carbs will ONLY come from fruits and veggies. No carbs before lunch as they tend to make me sleepy and grazey... i will also work on cutting back the potatoes - I've been eating a lot of white potatoes lately. I know they're ok and consider "primal" but I think they produce an insulin response that contributes to the binging. In fact, I had white potatoes for dinner last night prior to my mega binge on pudding...

and now my screen is going all wonky on me (bouncing back to the top whenever I stop typing) so I think I'll end this post here.

Alright! Let's do this! Sugar binges be gone! Vanquished!

...As I'm eating dark chocolate. Whatever, it's 85% and it's a square and a half. Prevention is key for me.

ANYAWYS, the 3 meals a day is what has really helped me in the past. Both for keeping myself satiated and making it "illegal" to eat between prevents me from spontaneous binges. Hope your plan works out! I'll check back in

Tonight I'm swinging by the grocery to pick up some berries. I will cut up my wonderful berries and mix them with the unsweetened coconut and top it with some heavy whipping cream. Hopefully the berries will be enough sweetener to satisfy my sugar monster.

Lunch today was leftover dinner from last night. Catfish fillet, cubed white potatoes pan fried in coconut oil, and green beans and garlic steamed with bacon and bacon grease. Yummo. The catfish wasn't the best reheated - kind of tough. Made me afraid that maybe it wasn't completely done. I had left this particular fillet in the oven for an additional 10 minutes because it wasn't "soft" and flakey like the rest... maybe it was just a tough fish?? Who knows. Wasn't taking the chance.

Tonight... dinner tonight will probably be lettuce leaf tacos. they're quick and easy and if the kids wanna play outside before dinner, it won't be a problem. Plus, the leftovers heat well. I'll make 2 lbs of meat, feed me and the kids tonight and split the leftovers for me and DH for lunch tomorrow.

I just spent a good half hour in the blazing afternoon sun. I could feel my arms getting really warm, and in the light of my office they look red, but I think they're probably ok. I sat on a picnic bench, ate my lunch and read my book. I'm over half way through Insurgent (the second of the Divergent series). Not sure what I'll read after this... probably one of Gay Panda's books.

I wore my fast flats again today. It's so funny b/c I get out of the car in the morning and for a fleeting second have that panicky dread that comes with forgetting to put on the right shoes. I did that once. Had to run out to the car for something before leaving for work one day so I just tossed on my flip flops. Got to work and realized I was wearing flip flops and khakis... oops. This is the quick fear I have each morning when I get out of the car. They're nice and comfy little things. More like slippers than anything. They certainly conduct heat though! Woo! And they're kind of cute. I like them.

I suppose. There is some paperwork that needs to be delivered so I think I'll go on a short walk. I hope everyone is having a good day.

Good luck on going back to basics! I'm being quite strict with my food right now, because I'm doing a summer challenge with my CrossFit gym (hmm, challenge ok, but where the hell is summer over here? It was HAILING today!!!). I didn't have any chocolate (or other sweet stuff) in more than 10 days! I am having fruit though, that's keeping my sweet tooth happy

I walked by a friend's computer today at work and saw she was "bing-ing" weight loss plans. I took her mouse and navigated her to MDA. She has taken the bait and is asking me all sorts of questions. her fiancee is a farmer though so she may get some fight out of him (CW farmer).

I'm excited that she's interested in trying it. I challenged her to do it for 2 weeks and evaluate how she feels and if she loves it to continue... if she doesn't she can go back, but I really don't think she'll want to go back.

I find my sugar addiction is ebbing. The sweets just don't do it for me the way they used to. I kind of overdid it with smoked mussels in cream tonight though... I needed someone around to eat it with, but DS would not touch smoked mussels or the mushrooms with a ten-foot pole. And that pan had both of those in there. Very, very nice.

I do think it's important to try to limit indulgences, when trying to retrain our taste buds. I find if I cheat too regularly, it tends to snowball. A very occasional small cheat helps, but those adjectives are important!

Try this...... I do this every morning. I keep a container of coconut oil in the bathroom - every morning after my shower I rub my feet with coconut oil and then put on my socks. So, all day my feet are being softened by the oil. It works really good! and if you can handle socks at night you can also do it at night. If they are REALLY dry and icky, use a pumic stone before putting on the oil.
