Raw milk isn't a possibility for us. It's illegal to buy and/or sell raw milk in the state of Iowa... *eye roll*
But it seems there is legislation in the works to change this? Raw Milk Laws and Regulations in Iowa - Real Raw Milk Facts
This weekend was pretty primal with the exception of a few incidences.
Saturday morning I made cream cheese pancakes and had them with grade b maple syrup. Yum.
Lunch was gluten free chicken nuggets and tater tots (oops, guess that wasn't so primal).
Dinner was ribeye steak, baked potato and "California" blend veggies (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots).
Sunday morning, I again made cream cheese pancakes and had them with grade b maple syrup. Brad wanted to try them.
Lunch was skipped?? Can't remember for sure. Oh wait... homemade applesauce - like a LOT of it
Dinner was bacon burgers, green beans and homemade steak fries (potatoes cut, coated in coconut oil and placed under the broiler til done).
I had a massive sugar crash after dinner and I think it was related to the massive amounts of apple sauce I ingested.
Yesterday morning we went out for breakfast. I had two eggs over easy, hashbrowns with ham, green pepper, onion and cheese. And a Pepsi... yeah, not so primal, but a very hard habit to break. I love pepsi with breakfast for whatever reason.
Lunch was leftover bacon burgers and green beans
Dinner was deer steaks sauteed in kerrygold and chopped mushrooms, then baked in a gravy made from the mushrooms. Served with mashed potatoes and sugar snap peas and kerrygold.
Did a LOT of walking yesterday. Brad and I both had the day off so we went to town and got him a pair of shoes and groceries. We walked from one end of our little mall to the other and back looking to see if any of the stores were open or not. They weren't so we left and went to price tires. Came back and walked the mall again only to get shoes at JCPenney. I like their no-fuss pricing. We got Brad a pair of NewBalance shoes for $40!! Found a TON of clothes we want to get Brady for Christmas too.
Then we walked around Walmart picking up our milk, lunch meat, pudding packs, and gluten-free Mac & Cheese, catfood, diapers, other such items. Then we went to HyVee and did our REAL grocery shopping. Brad was scoping out the HUGE gluten free section of our store, perusing the items that we could buy. I later explained to him that it's not about just avoiding gluten, it's about avoiding heavily processed foods in favor of minimally processed foods like fresh meats and freggies. He said he was just looking for things to make Brady's lunches more "normal" - apparently he thinks that a PB&J sandwich is "normal" for a kid's lunch. Today Brady has two hotdogs (blech) and a sliced apple. The reason is b/c he was supposed to have an orange and I didn't figure peanut butter would be good with an orange... but he's got a canker sore in his mouth, so an orange is out for today... we'll see how it is tomorrow. Tomorrow, if he still has the canker sore will send him with a sliced apple and some peanut butter, I think. I know peanut butter is "off limits" but he's not primal or paleo yet, so peanut butter will still be allowed for a little while. Plus, I don't have any cashew or almond butter right now and our grocery budget is all used up for this week. Maybe next week.
Anyhow... that's all I've really got for today. Excited to start my Whole27 on the 25th. It sucks that it's still two weeks out...

It's a combination of the words fruit and veggies. So, fruit + veggie = freggie.
It's a lazy method for those of us who don't want to spell out "fruits and veggies".

It is also illegal to buy and sell raw milk in CO. So we buy shares in a cow and then because we are part owners they 'allow' us to drink the milk raw, if we want to. Some states you are not even allowed to do that - stupid!

Similar laws on dairy here. DIL is unhappy because she can't buy her neighbour's goat milk, and she feels bad just taking it. I suggested bartering for it. She doesn't have her garden up and going yet, and her neighbour also has chickens, so she's thinking about buying goat feed for the exchange.

More and more, our life has been governed by specialists, who know too little of what lies outside their province to be able to know enough about what takes place within it.
