I know it's different from your perspective, but maybe try not to see a gluten-episode as "ruining" the experiment... You are seeing these changes, already, so a one-time exposure may not undo everything. It probably would not take 15 days to see this much progress again, if it created a behavioral set-back. Since this is a long-term project, there are bound to mistakes here and there. Nobody is perfect, right? I feel like I'm being a jerk for suggesting all this, but I can't think of a better way to say it. I worry more about the stress you put on yourself to keep him compliant than behavioral effects on your son. If that makes sense.

Oh yeah, that kind of thing is so much fun! We had a similar thing happen with a discussion of avocados.

Mayo is not that hard. I've been making it for over 30 years. If it doesn't emulsify, pour the liquid back into the measuring cup and start over with another egg in the blender, using the liquid mix. And if all else fails, use it as salad dressing. The trick, if you don't have an immersion blender, is to pour the oil very, very slowly, especially at the beginning. That's easier if you only fill the measuring cup half full.

Very cool that you can see behavioural changes in your son. Keep up the good work. And NW is right, a little slip-up here and there might set you back a bit, but it shouldn't send you back to square one. Nothing ever works as planned in this life, we just do our best and roll with the punches.

I have been allowed to see the first 167 pages of the book I'm being featured in. He's doing a great job of promoting the paleo lifestyle. I have, however, requested that I be allowed to submit replacement photos for the ones I already submitted. I've decided I'm not really comfortable with nearly naked pics being distributed across the nation. I was going through some pics on my computer and found some from my days at 213 lbs where I was wearing the EXACT same shirt that I'm wearing today so I ran to the bathroom and snapped new pics. I'll dig the originals off my hard drive at home, transfer these from my phone and send them to him if he'll allow me to resubmit. I hope he will. I really really do. I guess if he doesn't, I can always request to be removed from the book and I know he doesn't want to do that.

I agree that one time won't ruin the entire experiment, but I'm treating this like a whole30. In PBPM she says that any amount of gluten is too much gluten and since it could take 6 months to see the true results of a gluten free diet, consuming gluten even one time can throw off the results. I don't know. I wanted to go longer than 14 days - originally 3 weeks was my goal. And I'm only seeing a glimmer of changes right now, not something I can difinitively say isn't a coincidence.

Check out my blog if you want to see what changes I've seen so far.
