As the paleo=LC belief fades, we are seeing people leaning out on 50%+ carbs. People don't post about it here, but on other boards, it's not uncommon to see.

I think that's the next assumption to fall.

Honestly the more I learn the more I cringe when I see these one line responses like, "stop eating the apple". It's far from that simple. I think we need to educate them. There are a lot of factors going on... Also the more you talk to people the more comes out about how they are really feeling and getting along... They think something is normal that is not.

There is more to healing your metabolism then decreasing carbs. This might work, this might help, it might make things worse! *gasp*. Maybe eating more safe starches would be beneficial to this person. We need to stop assuming there is one ideal weight loss diet for everyone, because there isn't. Instead educate them to things that could help them, or they should experiment..but they should focus on how they feel in the process as well. Also some people really do not do well at all on VLC diets(actually the more people I hear about the more common I think this is).. and when they start eliminating fruit, are afraid to eat potatoes or white rice, then probably afraid of some root veggies they are most likely going to be <50g of carbs a day. I would say doing a ketogenic diet for a couple weeks isn't going to be a bad thing..but for 3 months might be for them. So a valid experiment sure, but it can't be shown as the only solution.

There are other mechanisms as well..they could have other problems going on with their body that they really need to focus on healing. Maybe their thyroid isn't functioning properly, or they dont have proper gut flora or gut permeability.

Then there are the psychological factors involved! How you feel towards the food you eat can impact your stress levels..which impact your cortisol levels. You know what can be really frustrating? I found that days where I had a treat/vs days or weeks that I went without one had no difference in my weight loss! Here I was scared to death of eating an apple.. when in fact this really had no impact to me at all.

Also exercise I think is essential to healing/losing weight. If you aren't at least walking everyday and something a little more rigorousness on a weekly basis.. this could cause some imbalances.

But usually those people aren't jumping on the OP. They've recognised that the OP is very active or is underweight and trying to gain muscle, etc, so they're giving genuine advice based on PB guidelines and common sense.

And it's true that primal isn't a low carb diet. There's nothing in the 10 primal laws about having to eat low carb.

GW: ~24% BF - have ditched the scales til I fit into a pair of UK size 10 bootcut jeans. Currently aligning towards 'The Perfect Health Diet' having swapped some fat for potatoes.

I agree! The biggest issue for me is that everyone is different... you can take the 10 "laws" and play with the ratios and schedules and everything and find what works best for YOU. Because that's not going to be the same for everyone. I feel awesome if I eat a fat/protein-only breakfast and have a few servings of fruit late in the evening... but maybe someone else needs fruit with breakfast. And each person has to figure that out for themselves.

That's what's hard about this way of eating, I think. It requires too many decisions about what works best for you as an individual - and for people who want or are conditioned to believe they need a strict plan of "eat this and this at this time," that can be discouraging.

Learn the 10 Primal laws, because they work, but these are the two most important rules (and #2 is probably the hardest to follow): 1. Eat real food, 2. Listen to your body.
