    Thanks for the tip Judg ... I am going to try doing very small amounts of CO, after I take about week off first. Pam, that made me laugh - waiting 6 months to clean out the barn!! Wow! That would be a heck of a job!! Bad enough cleaning out the coop when you do a deep litter system and have about 70 + chickens, but their poops are tiny in comparison

    I had a pretty good day, though not a very good nights sleep. Looking forward to a better night tonight. I had my usual tea with cream and stevia for breakfast and tea time Then lunch was an organic hotdog, 1 oz of scrumptious cheese with a small apple. 1 square of 48% chocolate, 3 squares of hazelnut currant dark chocolate (60%). I had a very small handful of nuts too. Dinner was roast chicken, cauliflower rice, gravy, and roasted butternut squash, roasted garlic. It was good and feel satisfied without being stuffed.

    Going to head to bed as I need a good sleep under my belt. Am also going to try and think of some goals that are more tangible than just the numbers on the scale. Ecks has inspired me with his neat goals and the ones he has accomplised already. Just sounds like fun...

    Well, we're talking one of those huge barns completely open inside with haylofts above. You keep layering fresh straw and the heat comes up and help keeps the goats (and sheep) warm. A bit different than chicken poop:-) It actually keeps it dryer than if you clean it out a lot with goats and sheep. You can layer shavings too, but that's not so good for when the itsies start popping out as shavings stick to everything. It is quite a job, but it was always a family venture. Wouldn't want to do that with horses or cows!!! Oh, goats and sheep could always go out to the pastures when they liked. We had two barns and rotated pastures. The upper layers were dry and you'd think: "This isn't so bad." Then you get to the bottom heavy layers!

    Worse than that was the alfalfa deliveries for the lofts -- we got really good at winching the bales up, but it was a lot of work -- with curious goats and sheep because they weren't allowed in while we were moving all that heavy stuff. They liked to help do everything. Used to try to sneak up on them. Fat chance. My lead lady always saw me.

    When I see boys wearing their pants low down (and the funny way they have to walk to keep them from sliding all the way) it always makes me think 'your diaper is full, time for a change'! That's what it looks like to me. Not, I am sure, the effect they are going for, but then, I am not their target audience. Few of them even know where the look came from (prison related), they are just blindly following the herd.

    I have to admit, I'd much rather see them in pants that fit. Especially if it means seeing a lovely rear end outlined in the pants. As opposed to seeing their underwear. That just doesn't do it...

    Pam, that is where it would be nice to have a neighbor who would lend you his little tiny skidsteer in exchange for some jelly or lamb chops etc.... But if it is a family endeavour it does help, can turn it into fun. Our animals sure do know us well don't they? Do you still have goats and sheep etc? I would love to try sheep eventually, partly because I would love to have their milk and make sheep's milk cheeses, and the wool, and lamb is one of my absolute favourite meats. I also like them - I think, I have never been around one for more than a few minutes at a time. I know they can be quite a challenge to keep in and safe...

    You guys are saying all the things I think when I see those britches hanging down so low! How on earth do you walk! And heaven forbid you actually might need to run or do something that requires you take your mind off how to keep those pants up! I agree Em, I think a nice bum displayed in a really nice pair of jeans is much, much more attractive! Sabine, the diaper is full is an excellent comparison! Tee hee, bet they would be mortified to realise how much it looks like that...

    DH surprised me just before bedtime with a bowl of raspberries, doused in cream and then sprinkled with shaved dark chocolate! How could I resist!? Later to bed than I had hoped, but it was in a good cause I guess I will just need to try again tonight for that elusive early night.

    No more sheep and goats. When the two middle children hit college age, we moved into town. We raised them for wool (the animals, not the children) but did eat them from time to time. We had mostly cashmere goats, an angora goat, Romney sheep, and odds and ends of all kinds of sheep and goats. We got our stock from a big farm that didn't have time to heal their sick animals or animals from homes where they'd been abused or neglected. Our Romneys we bought. We healed them (except Romneys who started out healthy) and loved them so much. I still miss them.

    We never used their milk, but their itsies sure did. We just brushed them, brought them in the house, played with them, etc. Super animals, all.

    I like the sound of all your critters We are trying to get a place that we can have more critters on. Probably need a flock guard or two as well, with all the coyotes, bears and lions around here! May just have to go with donkeys and Anatolian's or Great Pyrenees.

    Pretty good day - though too long! I am still tired from yesterday - really going to try and get to bed by 21h00 tonight. Had my last official massage today for my heel. We are hoping to ease out of the chiro that we have been going to - just got some funny stuff going on there and I think we have put their kids through college at the rate our family has been going! Just can't afford the 'program' anymore and so may just ask a friend who is a massage therapist (and who used to work there) to continue the massages. They seem to be doing the trick - but I must say that the gal who did the massage today is a hellion on my legs! I can't quite decide if the pain is particularly helpful ... the other gal who has been doing my massage every other week doesn't hurt me nearly as much, and if I squeal too much she will ease off for a minute or do something else for a moment. Today's gal just won't let up no matter what! And you know, I always feel bruised and sore for a few days after her treatments - whereas the other gal, I have less pain all round but seem to have good results from her massages too... Makes me wonder. I am feeling MUCH better now, I can walk pretty normally most of the time now and my little walks with Molly in the mornings are pleasant and mostly pain free! Today I walked most of the way to the lake and back - barefoot Felt good.

    Another day of lots of rain and the grass is greening up before my eyes - incredible how fast the green appears after a rain - I mean it was as brown and dusty as you could imagine. Today I look out and everything is looking SO much nicer and greener.

    I am having a bloated day ... no idea why. Haven't eaten anything bad, or too much... just bloated. And gained 2.5 pounds overnight! Wonder what that is all about! Hey, when I don't know I just blame it on hormones! Had my usual cup of tea with cream and stevia for breakfast and tea time. Lunch was a boiled egg, 4 breakfast sausages, a slice of nectarine, 1.5 oz of cheeses, 6 pecans. Dinner was leftover chicken, cauliflower rice with chicken gravy, a mushroom (raw) a small carrot from the garden, a small green bell pepper from the garden. Then a bowl of berries, cream and grated dark chocolate! Yum!

    There is a dog/ coyote that is jumping into my veggie garden every night!!!! and eating my pepper plants and their fruit, and the top of my ground cherry bushes!? How weird is that? Today, I was talking to DH in the diningroom and lo and behold, about 2 yards away a buck walked by our door! Only the storm door was closed... so I popped outside to see him off - can't have him chomping my parsley etc!

    Wondering when we are going to see the bears this year ... seems like a prime year to have them heading into town, drought and a big fire ... we are going to be moving all the chickens to next to our bedroom window so we can hear if there is any unwonted action going on at night.

    Goats would be fun. I fell in love with pygmy goats at a petting zoo many years ago. Still think about them sometimes. I should give one to my grandsons, now they're out in the country. Better consult with their parents too.

    I would tell that girl to ease up. You're paying her, remember.

    The bloat could very well be hormones. This too shall pass. If you've been eating very salty, that might be it too, in which case water is the cure. But it's probably hormones. I would feel like I was all stomach when that happened to me (fortunately not every month). It was objective too, not just my feelings. My pants would get very tight. I was avoiding the scales then, but I'm sure they would have confirmed it.

    Yes Judg, my pants show it too. Such a nasty feeling... I haven't really eaten anything particularly salty either and no more than usual. I am just going to grit my teeth and wait for it to pass. I hate seeing my numbers go up on the scale even though it is temporary. I only have a few days to go to the end of the month and I was hoping to get closer to my goal of 184 lbs... right now I am hovering just under 190 lbs. Grrr! Just going to be extra careful what makes it into my mouth the next few days and see if I can send the bloat off on its merry way again!

    Sad to say the deer found its way into my veggie garden last night and ate a few feet of bell pepper plants, bean plants, even the tomato plants! Going to have to rope DH into helping me make the garden even more secure - was hoping it would be good enough to finish the season out but 'no go' on that one!

    Starting to get my sights focused on preparing for moving even though it is at least 3 or 4 months out. I guess the main thing I need to do is keep getting rid of stuff that we don't need so that it is less to deal with when the time comes. I am more organised now than I have been in many, many years so that is promising. Just need to finish off the organizing and downsizing that I started so many months ago. Some of the stuff I was hoping I could sell on CL but no takers. Guess I might as well make a trip to the goodwill with more donations. It didn't help getting the camper that was stuffed to the gills with someone else's junk! My living room and the truck cab have been taken over by the foreign junk now! GOT to get my butt into gear and deal with it! I really want my living room back... every time I am almost there something else moves in and takes over.

    Here I am chatting away on everyone's journals when I should be getting on with school. (guilty laugh!) Ok, I'm off to be teacher now. Have good days all!
