Sorry you're having a rough day. I hope things ease up soon.

Looks like you had a nice weekend, despite the dietary constraints. How was the college visit?

    Sauce adventures

The visit was good. It was the second one to a campus we have seen before. I like it better after having been there a second time. Starting to feel more at ease with the idea of MY BABY maybe going there.

Remains to be seen if I am over my glumness. But I have a fun day with a friend planned, s even if I am glum, I won't have time to notice. I will be working on my new rug. My project yesterday was more challenging than anticipated, so what with being gone for most of the day today, and wanting a break, I will be choosing something EASY today.

    Here's how the day went:

    Up at 5:30

    9:00 1 egg + 1 yolk fried in butter
    1 bratwurst
    1C greens gratin
    1 coco-choc

    1:15 pork chop with
    mustard-horseradish
1CbBroccoli with feta, olives, and peppers
    2 coco-chocs

    7:15 chicken
    sauteed onions
    lettuce and tomato salad with
    italian dressing
    1 fried banana
    6 clouds

    Water: 8 glasses
Labor: much ponderous construction work- it has to count for something!

    Bed at 9:30

Oh, and mornay sauce does NOT reheat. Only make what you can eat right then. Nor is it good cold. Now I need to find some Marsala wine, for the next recipe. I have no idea what I can substitute, should my efforts be unsuccessful. No luck so far at the two stores I usually go to. Perhaps I should consult Winencandy. I do still have that leftover white stuff...hmmm...went to look at the label... it is Pinot Grigio. Need to look these up, and see if they are in the same ballpark.

    Dog news

Chica has been picked up by the neighbor again. He says he has two companions for her: Shih Tzu puppies. I hope he fixes the fence, because I really cannot have three extra dogs at my house. At least when grown, they will be bigger, and might not be able to squeeze out. I am glad she will have company. She'll love bossing those puppies around.

    Yesterday:

    Up at 5:30

    9:00 1C greens gratin
    1 egg + 2 yolks, fried in
    butter
    1 bratwurst

2:00 steak with horseradish and A-1
    1/2C broccoli
lettuce and tomato with italian dressing

    4:30 lox with
    cream cheese and capers
    2 coco-chocs

6:00 chicken salad with grapes, celery, almonds, mayo
    slice of quiche

    Water: 9 glasses
    Walking: not much

    Bed at 10:00

I think the need for more food in the afternoon was a direct result of not enough fat during lunch. After I ate those coco-chocs I was in fine fettle. Ate at 6:00 for dinner, but just had a token amount.

Now I am off to watch Downton Abbey with a friend.

I always get a little sad when Chica's family comes back for her. Why don't they just leave her with you?!?!

Sabine, you've got to be the nicest person in the world to take in a neighbor's dog, care for it, love it, and then give it back whenever they feel like they want a dog again. I wish you lived near me; I wouldn't put my mutts off on ya, I'd just give you lots of hugs

Jenn, that's what I want to know!

Judy, it gets harder each time. But odds are she'll be back soon. I can't imagine them suddenly becoming more attentive owners. And I haven't seen any fence repair going on, either. Thanks for the forum hugs- those are great.

I feel like I should be sending you some bags of dog food for the three extra dogs you're going to have soon! Why on earth would such a person get two new puppies?

As to that, I'm wondering how she will do going back to kibble. I feed her raw food when she is over here, as I do our dogs, and she LOVES it. The dachshunds won't even touch the occasional dog biscuit they are offered (at the vet and the bank drive-thru) but Chica still enjoys them, so I guess she'll be able to switch back. Right?

If all three of them start coming over, I'm going to have to figure out another strategy. I CANNOT have FIVE dogs!

    Can I?

Middlest got to the core of the matter (I am afraid) when she immediately asked 'A boy and a girl?' I fear even more Shih-Tzu's may be in store in the coming year.

Oh crap Maybe they are planning to breed them.
Hope Chicca doesn't have more puppies too.

She shouldn't be too bothered by the raw food only at your place since she will know its much better
