I am amazed by your positive spirit despite the challenges you have been facing. So proud of you for holding it together. Maybe the weird interview will be the one. I've had weird interviews before. Learned in my classes lately that weird interviews where the interviewer does more talking than the interviewee and there's less "job talk" it's b/c they've already selected the interviewee as the hiree and the interview is just a formality, a box to check, if you will. Come to think of it, NaiadKnight had a weird interview too... maybe that means good news for both her and your hubby! *fingers crossed*

    And....she's back!

Less than 24 hours after they fetched her, we hear a scratch, scratching at the door. Chica is asking to come in, and the neighbors are nowhere to be seen. Cars gone from the driveway, and Chica obviously not secured in house or yard, but free to trot about.

So, we're back to three dogs, for now. We'll see if they come to get her, and how long it takes.

Need to make some stressful calls tomorrow, about money. Not looking forward to it.

There is a mountain of dishes in the sink, and I'm not looking forward to that, either.

Looked up tips on dumpster diving today, in a furtive manner, at the library. Can't decide if I am being resourceful or pathetic.

On the plus side, the shawl I am knitting from scraps is looking great. I am half way through the mindless part. I think next I will have to make sweater vests for the dogs.

Chin up, Sabine, something will come through. Are you still looking for yourself?

    Sabine-
The Mother provides (or so I keep telling myself.) I know, being in this boat REALLY sucks harsh donkey ass, but something'll come in. Law of averages says it has to, eventually, right?
And dumpster diving, done right, is resourcefulness. Some of my favorite furniture pieces in our house were rescued from the garbage heap and restored. My dog sleeps in a Dogloo someone left by the dumpster and sleeps on blankets someone was about to throw away. So... yeah, resourceful. Not pathetic.

Oh, yes. Making the rounds again this morning, filling out applications. I don't mention it all the time, because how depressing is that?!

I did a scouting trip on dumpster location this morning, on my way back from the school run. Saw a homeless person sleeping, so immediately felt: bad for them, thankful we aren't at that point, worried as to what I could/should do for them. A sack meal? But will they still be there when I get back? I can't go until Littlest gets out the door. Also saw a piece of pegboard, for which I will go back when the place is open, and ask if they are tossing it. I have been wanting some peg-board for our garage. Our tools are in a crazy jumble.

Chica fit right back into the family circle last night.

Maybe a little too much so.

Our neighbor on the OTHER side has a new dog. This dog is quiet, but comes and stands right by a crack in the fence, driving our dachshunds into a frenzy. We are starting the long process of teaching them not to bark at him. With Chica on the other side of her fence, they would run over, bark and snarl like crazy at each other for about two minutes, and then lose interest. Not with this new dog. I think him just standing there, silently, is making them crazy with curiosity/desire/who knows what. So last night when Salem and Chloe went into their new routine, Chica charged over and joined in. One, when she starts barking, it revs Salem and Chloe up even more (mob mentality forming, right before my eyes! ). Two, I now have THREE dogs to haul out from under the bushes, instead of two.

I will definitely take this problem over sleeping next to a dumpster!

It is Homecoming today and half the gals and guys at the school when I dropped off Middlest and her friend, were burdened with mums or garters. Middlest's friend had one from her date that required quite a bit of manuevering.

Maybe it would help if you organized a meeting of the dogs face to face instead of through a fence. If they can meet maybe the scent of the other dog will be less alluring?

I think my reservations about the dumpster diving are because for the first time, I am thinking of it not as an 'oh look, that's neat, let's grab it since someone is just throwing it away' moment, but an 'I need things, so let's go looking for them in the trash' one.

All attitude, I suppose. I just need to get over it. But not at Aldi, apparently, because their dumpster is hidden.

The dogs are so funny about meeting other dogs. Sometimes it works out great, other times...not so much. Salem in particular: very docile when meeting them 'out in the wild'. But when she is back on her territory, watch out! She turns very macha. We'll be trying it, though, because it just makes sense.

Did one work call, so that feels good. Going to feed myself and the dogs, do some chores, then head out on the application rounds.

Good luck on your interview today, Naiadknight. We're all rooting for you.

I would suggest introducing the dogs on the sidewalk out front or at a park then. That way neither dog is in their territory and won't feel a need to defend it.

Got through the job applications, and paying two and 1/10 bills. Whew. I've got that shaky feeling, like after a histimine release. One more unpleasant task for today, and another on Monday. Ugh. Stress, stress, stress! I hate it.
