    A new adventure

    Primal Fuel
    I took a cold bath this morning, and followed it up with a shot of caffeine and a walk. It took a good chunk of ice to get the temperature even down to 70 degrees, so I've made about double the amount of ice for tomorrow. I'm going to try to do this every morning, now that fall is coming on. I DID have to steel myself to get in, but it took less than a minute to get used to it, I suppose because it really wasn't THAT cold. A little colder every day, that's the idea.

    I'm still jittery from the caffeine. I don't really like the idea of it, but I figure it is worth a shot. Since I seem to be (mentally) unable to stick to good food habits right now, I might as well try the other stuff like cold therapy, exercise/meal timing, and caffeine. But if I start saying 'ooh, I love this coffee rush' I want y'all to give me an internet slap upside the head and bring me to my senses. I DO NOT want to be a person who needs caffeine to get herself going.

    I'm making patties for my dachshunds this morning. Carrot, celery, parsley, cabbage, eggs, sardines, oats, and ground beef grated together. It looked good, and smelled terrific. Is that funny, or scary?

    We encouraged the neighbor's dog to walk along with us this morning. It was the second time, and our dogs seemed more accepting of her today. Then we gave them all a little ground beef snack together afterwards. If we can get them so that our dogs don't want to redneck her all the time, we might just gradually incorporate her into our home, letting her into our backyard and house, and seeing if the neighbors even notice. At the least, she could be like one of those cats who have daytime and night-time homes. Then I wouldn't have to worry about her wandering the streets, getting hit by a car, or being lonely. Or being fed correctly- she seems to be getting thinner. Of course, she may just have marked me down as a sucker who will give her ground beef and chicken if she acts right. Today I want to hunt up our old dog harnesses and leashes so that we can see if she'll walk in one of those. She ran into the road several times today! Yikes!

    Woo! Energy rush! At least I will get a lot of chores done this morning. I have been writing this post in spurts between jumping up and doing dishes, dog food, laundry, all that. Maybe I should clean the bathroom while I feel so edgy.

    Why is caffeine advised? Everything I have read says that caffeine should be avoided as it causes a "fight or flight" response and messes with cortisol releases and what not.

    I'd have to go back and read up on it. (And figure out where I read it. ) I do remember it was one of those things that when I read it, I thought, 'well, I'm never doing THAT!' And yet, here I am, trying it.

    Still feeling jittery after 3 hours. Hmmm. The laundry is zipping along and I have a spinach and mushrooms quiche in the oven. No bacon, though. And we're almost out of our bacon grease. I am looking forward to having bacon back in the budget.

    The feeling after getting out of the tub was interesting. There was a definite, though small, rush of warmth, not just to my legs.

    Caffeine is supposed to be good (in moderate amounts) for CFS and depression. DIL has been reading something lately that it's better coming from coffee than tea, so she has started asking for coffee instead of tea. (She's a Maritimer, and they are big on tea.) She just said that three cups a day was supposed to be healthy, and I didn't ask in what way. I'm so used to doing one or two that it would throw my routine off... LOL!

    I haven't worked up my courage to try cold baths. I tend to keep the house pretty cool all winter, so that will have to do. I take cool, not cold, showers all summer too, because who needs the extra heat? I enjoy cooling off in the shower when the temps are high. Not now though.

    Every dog should have a friend as good as you.

    I'm all about my hot showers... the hotter the better. Especially now that it's getting cold again. I hate cold. I think this year I'm going to really miss summer.

    I probably shouldn't admit this, but I have cooked up your dachshunds's dinner for myself, minus the oats and ground beef. The cats loved it too. We are just sardine-eating fools.

    I love sardines! The other day I made my dogs a special breakfast: an egg scrambled, then cooked in a 8" pan, crepe style. Cut the disc in half, an wrap a sardine in each half-moon of egg, for a little sardine omelette. Since there are four sardines per can, this means I get the leftovers! Yum! A favorite treat for all.

    And sardines with tomato sauce sandwich was one of my all time favorites growing up. You can guess how popular this made me at school.

    Tomi- I think it is hilarious that your 'no cold baths' comment is accompanied by the picture of you in a kayak. I'm thinking, one little slip, and you are having a VERY cold bath!

    Judg- thanks. I think I am feeling I should have done more about the puppies, and that at least I can do something for her. (Although I do try to be kind to animals, in general.) I made little mini-patties for Chica(name of the neighbor's dog) using our ice-cream scoop. They look pretty adorable, like ground beef cookies. I'm interested to see if she likes them. And I think the dogs walking together, and then being fed together, was good. Last night when we got them together again, they were relatively calm. There was even some casual sniffing.

    Jenn, you are like my Honey. Steam billows out from his showers, so hot he comes out like a lobster. But he loves it.

    Another cold bath and caffeine combo this morning. Got the bath to 68 degrees. I feel adjusted after just a minute, so it is not so bad, but my knees do keep sneaking upwards. I have to concentrate on keeping them SUBMERGED! And I haven't lain back: it is all about the lower body so far.

    Last night dinner was an over-done quiche. I forgot I was cooking it, and it got a very brown, chewy, parmesany crust on top. But no throwing out food in this house right now, so we peeled off the top and ate it. My Honey even ate the crust, and said it was good, but the girls and I passed.

    The fridge and pantry are starting to look bare. I began cutting way back on our groceries a month ago, trying to use what we have on hand, and we are seeing the effects. I was able to empty out our chest freezer, and move everything to our fridge freezer last week. (Six dollars a month in electricity.) Now even our fridge freezer is starting to empty out. It gives me plenty of room to make ice for my cold baths! I should probably do this regardless every six months or so: I'm finding some unusual things.

    Feeling very chatty this morning (probably the caffeine) but I have to make the girls' lunches, so off I go. Have a good morning, all.
