Actually, Cottage cheese is not expensive comparing to nuts and good quality red meat.
@Sean. I find the 1:4 protein to carb ratio as recovery (no later than 30 minutes after the effort) as working very well. I experimented it, changing the ratio or simply skipping it. It influenced performance significantly.
I take the protein out of almonds and carbs out of apples and banana, blend it in water.

I like fish, but not to the point where I would want to eat it every day. Nuts and red meat can get pretty expensive! Thanks though.
I don't eat much dairy because of the many problems associated with it, but I have recently been experimenting with post-heavy-lifting (2x weekly) snacks of 1/2 cup cottage cheese plus 1 kiwi with good results.
Much as I love the stuff, I don't eat it any other time. It's not the best choice of foods.
