    Alternative to pasta?

    Primal Fuel
I've really been missing pasta. Fettucine alfredo, baked macaroni and cheese, and ravioli, to be exact. Does anyone know how to replicate these recipes? Spaghetti squash works fine for tomato based recipes but it isn't so hot with alfredo.

Pour the alfredo sauce over meat? Seriously, I'm thinking shrimp floating in a nice alfredo sauce sounds really good right now.

Okay, I'm ducking out before the "Stop looking for substitutes!!!" posts start flying.

I put it over veggies like broccoli and cauliflower and love it. You can also saute mushrooms and put your spaghetti sauce over that.

How long have you been primal? For most people the pasta cravings go away within a month or two - so it is probably best to try to wait it out.

Pasta and bread no longer look even remotely appealing to me anymore. Once in a while some freshly baked artisinal bread that is warm from the oven will temp me, but past never looks good any more.

You can use the sauces over sauteed vegetables (long thin slices of zuccini, mushrooms, broccoli slawy, or cauliflower rice are all good).

My favorite subs are lasagna with eggplant slices instead of noodles (also called moussaka) and mung beans sprouts lightly stir-fried and covered in sauce.

Stay strong and ride it out. The pasta cravings will go away. Even my pasta-addict boyfriend won't touch it anymore.

Kelp noodles are great, and rice noodles if you eat rice. Many Primal and WAPF followers do.

Thinly sliced zucchini is divine. But starch isn't necessarily the enemy. It's about context.

+ 1. Also, as you like Italian, I suggest you try a traditional risotto with arborio or cannaroli rice. Risottos can be baked with cheese on top if you like.

Another possibility would be to make your own potato gnocchi as a pasta substitute, adding a little rice flour in place of wheat flour.

we use spaghetti squash for spaghetti, and zucchini sliced on a mandolin for lasagna
never really cared too much for pasta, so it was one of the easier things to give up for me

You could try these, but I hear mixed feed back as far as taste goes:

I've gone with potato gnocchi or just used the sauce (alfredo is my fave!) over my steak, shrimp or chicken and veggies. I never even missed the pasta. Two of my favorite dishes: shrimp and spinach with alfredo and steak with a gorgonzola sauce. Yum! I'm not much for a red sauce, though I've had meatballs with a red sauce when my family wants spaghetti.
I NEED Sunshine! And a beach would be nice too!
