I used to allow myself to get upset until I found the ignore feature (I'm new to forums). But now I wonder, how people are ignoring me?

People say crap online they'd never say in person. Such is the internet. It creates a powerful feeling of anonymity. Kind of scary, actually.

Unless someone deserves an online bitch slap, I'm pretty damn nice! Even still...how does that saying go?

"Arguing online is like the Special Olympics: even if you win, you're still retarded"

Not PC, but neither am I.

I want to help, and I want to learn. I'm not afraid of being corrected, or being wrong. But we can all be civil, no?

Thank you for bringing that up, Nady. How exactly should one respond to that sort of question? I agree there are some confusing topics getting tossed around here (iodine, re-feeds and leptin resets, to name a few) but this person is either trolling or clearly hasn't read a single page of the book/website.

I try to give them the benefit of the doubt at first. I'll post a few links and give them a good-natured warning that they might get a bit singed and why. If they keep on in that vein and it becomes obvious that there a troll, I try to ignore it. Occasionally my inner snarkbeast gets the better of me, I must admit.

you don't encourage people to come to the forum? because people here are 'unkind'?...

...i kind of have the feeling you've never been on the internet before.. this place is one of the least unkind places i've seen

there is a low tolerance for BS, which is generally a good thing

+1 to all the people saying the nastiness on this forum is nothing compared to the internet average. Especially considering how little moderation there is here.

The internet is a mean place. Just how it is when everyone is talking from behind a computer screen, in near-total anonymity, and without the normal voice and body language cues that dampen aggressive feedback in face-to-face conversations.
Today I will: Eat food, not poison. Plan for success, not settle for failure. Live my real life, not a virtual one. Move and grow, not sit and die.

It's a mix, just like IRL.

You've got people asking really lame questions. Those people? Seriously, don't expect me to do more work than you're willing to do for yourself. Search.

You've got people who think their way is the only way, and if you dare to question them, you should be burned at the stake. But they'll take flaming you on the net if that's all they can get.

You've got people who don't know any actual real live human beings, and the internet is their only point of social contact - not so good on the whole "human interaction" thing, so they come off as obnoxious.

And you've got people who truly ARE obnoxious asshats.

See? Just like the real world.

p.s. usually the ppl asking the questions are not the ones "lying" to you...so why make "them" pay when it is the "others" that are out to get you?
