I always feel better when I face what I am avoiding.

So I am still going strong. A few snacky foods here and there but no gluten whatsoever. I seem to have caught whatever cold my daughter had, but after one day of feeling pretty terrible, I think I am already rebounding. I wanted to make my normal comfort meal of chicken and dumplings to make myself better, but I remembered that when we are sick is the most important time to stick to this lifestyle. So instead I made sort of an odd soup with what I had in the kitchen. Beef broth (was out of chicken), onions, celery, carrots, leftover chicken from a roaster, lots of seasonings. It sort of tasted like french onion soup with chicken thrown in. Either way, it was exactly what I needed and so I think by tonight I should be all better. I didn't have time or energy to try to make myself breakfast or lunch for work today, so I am trying to decide if I want to fast or go to the store and attempt to get some good food... I feel like I read somewhere that fasting while sick could be good for you, but after all of the many things I read all the time, I'm not 100% convinced that my own mind didn't just make that up.. Choices choices..

I haven't really started exercising again. I'm not sure what I'm waiting for. I will have to find a way to start sneaking it in my day sometime soon. I already am noticing a change in face and waist. I'm sure it is not noticeable to anyone around me, but it felt good to get up and look in the mirror today. Also, my productivity in the office yesterday was just insane. By the end of the day I had checked off so many things on my list that I did a little dance and left 20 minutes early so that I would have time to start soup before big girl got off the school bus.

Hope everyone has a happy, healthy day!

Sounds like you are doing great! I'll call you on your exercise if you call me on mine...

I have heard that fasting when sick is a good thing too, but it wasn't from an expert.

Ooh, thanks Judg! I'm always up for help with accountability.

And I am going to stick to just fasting today. I have coffee and a dab of cream in the office and I really don't feel like venturing out into the cold anyway. And I only have 2.5 more hours to go before work is over. So in three hours I could have something yummy and perfectly primal. And maybe starving these germs will just get them to pack up and move on to a more hospitable host. Sounds like a plan to me : )

I love the idea of a holiday accountability group! Can I join?
Thanksgiving is already over here, but goodness knows there are going to be plenty of opportunities to exercise some self restraint in the next couple months

While I do definitely have some weight-related goals, I think it's a good idea to focus on more specific aspects in order to succeed here.

So, I propose my first goal to be: to get in two exercise sessions of some kind per week. Personally, I find it easier to stick to my eating goals when I am being active, and I have a serious hibernation instinct that often keeps me pretty sedentary in the winter. But I am determined to do lots of sledding and skating this year!

And I will make a specific behaviour-based goal the next time I know a social event is coming up. Hehe sorry to hijack!

Hopefully you are feeling better soon, there has been some really nasty colds going around here.. Your soup sounds lovely though, just the thing when you're not feeling well!
I'm glad you're optimistic despite your illness though, keep it up! If you can be committed when you're feeling crappy, you can definitely do this when you're at your best.

Okay, Jamilyn, I went for long walks Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, a shorter amount today AND I did a resistance band workout this morning. I am feeling virtuous. What's your score?

    Spiral, welcome aboard!!!

This cold is really hanging on. Following me around with off and on fevers and a nasty chest cough. I'm really planning on being better by tomorrow..

Yesterday was week 2 of weigh in. The scale told me I had only lost .4 lbs. This was at the height of what I think was a fever. I was all stopped up, about to cry, and had several layers of clothes on. So the .4 loss was just fine with me.. Besides, I checked on my home scale this morning and I think I am more closely down by about 2.5...

As for exercise, on Wednesday evening, I took my little out for a long walk around the neighborhood. When I say long, I mean probably not even a whole mile. However, it is quite hilly, and my quads really felt it when I got home!! Then I played the Wii with my big girl for about an hour and a half. Its always a little surprising to me after I exercise, how out of shape I am. My mental self really really doesn't match my real (temporary) self. I still see myself as 40 lbs lighter and 6 years younger. I am actually shocked when I see myself in pictures. I look forward to getting closer to the me that I envision when I close my eyes.

Thursday, yesterday, after my medicine kicked in, I was feeling achy and decided that a little bit of exercise might help. So I did 25 seconds on plank, 10 bench push ups, and lunged to and from the mini fridge in my office several times (probably about 30 lunges total). I also hung on my pull up bar for about 3 seconds since that is all I can manage right now. Yet another discovery, I am not strong enough to even hang on the pull up bar for extended periods of time. When did this happen?!?!?

Judge, you kicked butt this week and you also inspired me to dig a little bit today. When my big girl gets home from school I am going to suggest that we have a "Just Dance" competition on the Wii and then I think I will bundle everyone up for some play at the local park. Thanks for that Judge!!! This kind of inspiration and accountability is exactly what I was looking for : )

Update!! Turns out my pull up bar is what sucks, not me. After going to the playground with my little girl this afternoon, I discovered that I can, in fact, hang for a little while, and I can even still climb things (with an extreme amount of effort). And go down the firemans pole, and do push ups on the bench, and jump up onto a very short platform, and go down slides..

It was fun. That is all.

Good for you! I must confess, today was a dud for me. Sort of crashed. And cooked for DS, who is home for the weekend.

    Tomorrow I must do better.

    Hi all!

After a lonnnnng break, I'm back! I'm not sure who is still hanging around these forums, but I look forward to catching up with everyone.

My life has changed significantly since last on here.. I look forward to letting the stories come as they need to come. As for primal eating, I hadn't focused on that for a long time, but I'm am back on and going strong after one week. It seems to have been able to click for me this time, and I feel really great! I am currently at about 183 lbs, and need to get to about 120, probably a little less if I'm honest, and I think I am headed in the right direction.

I'm happy to be back! Hope all are well!

    J
