Unfortanetly free range just means that they aren't in a cage and that there is some sort of door in the facility. It doesn't mean that they are running around outside
So basically anything you can buy in a standard supermarket (except whole foods they have a brand called Vital Farms) is not good quality eggs. So whole foods vital farms (my local whole foods also has local eggs they are blueish and def pasture raised), or better yet Find a local farm, or even better raise your own chickens..

YOU DO NOT NEED IODINE SUPPLEMENTS. Eat a little seaweed once or twice a week. More than that, and you're probably just mauling your thyroid.

Completely agree. A "Free Range" label is about as meaningful as green colored packaging.

I think this is in reference to "cage free". Cage free just means not locked in battery cages but still locked inside one of those awful factory buildings.
I have never seen a egg carton marked "free range" in a grocery... only "cage free".
I think most people who are saying that they buy "free range" eggs are buying local from farmers who let their chickens out to roam/forage. At least that's what I mean.

Sometimes it says free range. Sometimes Cage Free.. I always say pasture raised when I talk about my eggs.

I agree, it can be a big con.
I eat so many eggs (about 18-20 a week) I'm considering making a trip to a farm in the vicinity (<15 miles drive) that advertises eggs for sale and asking if I can meet the chickens. If I were satisfied that the chickens are genuinely free range, I'd happily make a trip to buy 3 dozen or so once a fortnight. I can't complain - there is a serious amount of ethical organic farming going on in Somerset. I've seen farms advertising duck eggs for sale at the roadside, and I'd be interested to check those out.
