    Thanks for the reply. That's what I've been thinking - especially since I haven't been able to find any data on high HDL being bad.

    And wow - your doc actually told you that your triglycerides were TOO LOW?!? No wonder there's so many sick people out there!

    I only wish Griff were still an active poster around here. He is an exceptionally intelligent person who added a great deal of well researched content to MDA. Griff was here when I arrived and I consider him to be one of my biggest inspirations to follow this woe.

    Hey, Griff! In case you ever check in on this thread, we miss you.

    So agree, Paleobird. I don't post much but greatly appreciated Griff's intelligence, his careful research and his willingness to share it with us.

    Hey guys, a newbie to this forum, and so very, very glad I found this thread. I'm a type 1 diabetic recently converted to the paleo way of living. Great improvement in my hba1c figure, which, at 6.9% is as good as it has ever been. Had a lipid profile done last week and this is where I am at:

    TC= 286 (8 months ago = 162)
    HDL= 92.8 (8 months ago = 46)
    LDL = 185 (8 months ago = 96)
    Triglycerides = 44 (8 months ago = 115).

    Slightly concerned at the overall raise, giving my higher risk factor having type 1 diabetes. Should I be concerned?

    Many thanks,

    Craig

    Craig, very hard for anyone to say what is your risk given your condition. The decrease in Trigs and increase and HDL are both very positive. Your ratios are good too, but I don't think that the ratios are very good markers of health. They are proxies for different markers

    I'd be happy to have your numbers, but I'm not diabetic.

    As you are concerned, I recommend getting your ApoB and ApoA1 measured. See the INTERHEART link in my signature

    Thank you so much for the very clear information. As we (husband and myself) continue with Paleo, he is concerned with his numbers since he is on a statin, and now I can take this info, along with the numbers from his tests, and he can see in black and white how they truly read. It drives me crazy all the appointments he has had over the last few years, to take his blood and refill that dang prescription. What a racket:/

    Wow, what a difference knowing what the numbers really mean.

    My numbers:
    2013 (primal) 2012 (SAD)
    Total: 269 Total: 228
    Tri: 25 Tri: 46
    HDL: 88 HDL: 77
    LDL: 156 LDL: 148
    Chol/HDL 3.1 Chol/HDL: 3.0

    With using the Iranian Equation, I feel much better about what this says. When I first saw the numbers, I freaked a little. I think I was still thinking about CW regarding cholesterol/lipids.
