Wow, shows how careful you have to be reading things on the internet! Before I reached the pages with the conversion figures I looked up Iranian Equation and found: low serum triglyceride (<100 mg/dL or 1.13 mmol/L). Reading on, I saw that someone had already offered a conversion figure of 38.664. That's not right I thought, I get 88.5 as a conversion factor.
A bit more digging and it's obvious. mmol is molecular weight, and cholesterol and triglyceride molecules are different weights.
To convert mmol/l of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mg/dl, multiply by 39.
To convert mg/dl of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mmol/l, divide by 39.
To convert mmol/l of triglycerides to mg/dl, multiply by 89.
To convert mg/dl of triglycerides to mmol/l, divide by 89.
To convert umol (micromoles) /l of creatinine to mg/dl, divide by 88.
To convert mg/dl of creatinine to umol/l, multiply by 88.
Good job we are mostly looking at ratios!
Everyone who has converted triglycerides earlier in the post needs to double the figures
Can the moderators change the values in earlier posts in case people don't read this far?

Just got new numbers. Here they are: First number July, second number October.
HDL 47.0 37.0
LDL (Friedewald) 55.0 48.0
Triglycerides 105.0 160.0
Total (Friedewald) 123.0 117.0
Total/HDL Ratio 2.62 3.16
Trig/HDL Ratio 2.23 4.32
Calculated LDL/HDL Ratio 1.17 1.30
Used the Fried2wald formulas since trigs over 100. Got these numbers using barbeygirls calculator: http://inthenightlife.wordpress.com/...mal-resources/
I expected better numbers. As reference, started PB in June. Very strict since I am diabetic - 30g of carbs/day or less (usually a lot less). No 20% for me.
Best news - HgA1c July 5.9, October 5.5. Back in January it was 11.0 and in March 8.1.
January 219 lbs. today 175 @5'4"

Actually, BigRed's response is correct - to convert mmol/dl to mg/dl for TRIGLYCERIDES ONLY, multiply by 89. (For everything else, it's 38.664.) So:

The mods don't change the content of most posts, I don't think. But I've commented here that you are correct. This conversion information doesn't appear at all in the original post; I would edit it to include it, but unfortunately it won't let me add any more text to the post. Thank you for catching that!

I didn't read the whole thread, but my doctor informed me that I'm "a heart attack waiting to happen." She told me to change my diet NOW. Here are my numbers:
LDL = 179
HDL = 84
Ratio = 3.2
I've been Primal for about 2 months. From what I understand, it's the ratio that matters. I think mine is okay? How do I come back at her about this? Do I ignore her? Find a different doctor? She used very strong words and it scared me. lol I am female, not overweight, 32 years old, if that matters...

Give us all your numbers, not just the LDL and HDL. Let's see your TC and trigs, too.

Griff, et al,
New numbers after a solid year of 99% Paleo. I typically eat 2 dozen or more eggs a week, and my diet is very heavy on coconut oil, bacon, pork, grass fed meat, etc... Carbs are usually between 50-125/day.
Measure --Year Ago --Now
TC -- 176 -- 274
LDL -- 98K/78I -- 156K/118I
HDL -- 67 -- 110
TRIG -- 55 -- 47
TOT/HDL-- 2.63 -- 2.49
TRIG/HDL-- .82 -- .43
LDL/HDL --1.16I -- 1.07I
As you can see all of my ratios have improved. Unfortunately, my company will increase my costs (2k/yr) when they test me again and see my TC is above 200. What are your thoughts and others on my Total & LDL measures? Should I try to lower these or am I worrying about nothing? I also ordered a VAP test but I am pretty sure I know what the results will be with regards to my LDL pattern.
Thanks in advance!

I will have to get those from her, she didn't give them to me. It was all done by phone and she just kept saying, "But your LDL...is so high" to everything I tried to come back with.

Tell her to look up cholesterol ratios and say that you don't want to hear anything else about your cholesterol until she's read the relevant research on that. And then tell her HELL NO to statins.
