Thoughts on Neanderthal DNA
So I've been reading those reports on neanderthal DNA making up like 5% percent of our DNA and I just have to wonder... How much of our DNA is different?
I mean, if the majority of the genetic structure of two species so closely related is extremely similar anyway then who's to say we aren't actually 50% neanderthal? I mean, they could share so many genes with us (or would that be WE could share them?) that for the most part it would be impossible to tell.
If the difference is only 10% then isn't 5% half? (Not a literal figure, they never told us what the difference actually is.)
In all of the universe there is only one person with your exact charateristics. Just like there is only one person with everybody else's characteristics. Effectively, your uniqueness makes you pretty average.
