    Atkins Fat Fast

    Primal Fuel
A study about this by Pawan and Keckiwick was published in Lancet during the 1950s. They found a diet of 90% fat and 1,000 calories to be a highly effective short term fat loss diet, more so than just eating nothing or eating 1,000 calories of carbs, protein etc. Atkins published info in his book A New Revolution as a way for "metabolically resistant" people to get results quickly and then go on in to induction.
Atkins Article : The Fat Fast

A few years ago I would never have been open to trying such a thing but I read about it on a certain underground fitness e-mail list I'm on and decided I'd give it a try. Atkins said to do it for no more than 5 days but the fitness guru suggested it could be done for up to 10 days. I'm on day 7 and it's been rough, but eye opening. It's been hard being almost totally carb free the last week or so but my waist is like tiny and midsection pretty flattened out. I'm sure next week when I start eating normally again I'll regain but I had to find out for myself if animal fat is really effective for fat loss and indeed, it is.

90% fat and 1,000 calories, ok. That's 900 calories from fat.

I guess I'd have to ask the 2 obvious questions...

    1) What should the other 100 calories be? protein? carbs? mix of both?

    2) What exactly do you use for fat calorie sources? I suppose a can of coconut milk that I get from WF has close to that amount, but that would get kind of boring I would think.

Yeah, just make sure to keep it short term. There are some who do it long-term, and they are called VLCers, and they are silly.

Unless eating more carbs will make you sick and lead to your death.

Can't imagine how that could be.
Wheat and corn, maybe -- there are legitimate allergies to things like that. But not carbohydrate itself.

If you have diabetes and eat too many carbs, your blood sugar will go up to dangerous levels and cause complications to your body.

High fat animal protein source. I have used goat cheese, butter, organic cream cheese and eggs for the whole thing. You have to check out some nutrition facts to find out what the % of fat per serving which the math is usually done for you- so for eggs, for ex. calories is 70 grams and 50 are from fat. So 3 eggs= 210 calories and 150 from fat. I haven't done 90% every single day because frankly eating butter several days in a row really starts to grate on you.

i wouldn't do this for too long, only because the lack of protein and carbs means you'll wind up stripping aminos from your muscle. but maybe muscle building isn't your thing, and if this is purely for fat loss, it oughta work nicely.

Nope. Researchers found high fat PRESERVES muscle tissue. I actually tried it just to see what would happen. It works.

curious, how long did you try it for? your body needs amino acids. it will take them from somewhere, eventually.
