Switching to primal, after being on atkins for two years i notice that sometimes i get dizzy and i'm having trouble concentrating. I started noticing this since i started atkins and turning to primal has helped a lot (more fruit and vegetable i guess) but hasn't eradicated the problem. I am sure it's the lack of carbs causing this. Am i doing something wrong? Should i just eat more than 1 or 2 fruit a day and about 4 vegetables? I don't want to gain any of the 83 pounds i so painfully lost :/

    Thanks for your help

What does the rest of diet look like?

Serpiko, have your ever been tested for diabetes or something that could cause your blood sugar to drop dramatically if you don't constantly feed it with sugar?

There could be a million reasons, really. A blood work would most likely point you in the right direction. People with thyroid problems can experience dizzy spells too. Same with anemic and people who are low on iodine (also thyroid related).

@adventure8410 usually i will eat about 4 egg whites for breakfast and protein food at noon (steak, chicken etc). Sometimes i'll eat some walnuts, or almonds too. Plus the fruit and vegetable i mentioned earlier.

@choclatechip no i've never been tested for diabetes. I will, though, thanks for proposing. I am kinda anemic (not sure of the medical term) but nothing really serious as my doctor said, he didn't even feel he had to prescribe me supplements or medicine. Got no thyroid problems for sure

Serpiko - egg whites? Eat the whole egg! You need more fats - like the egg yolks - if the white is all you've been having. Cut back severely on the fruit - it's too high in sugar.

Give us a typical day's menu and we can probably tell you more.

Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

I agree with Griff...whole eggs are far superior to egg whites. The yolk is where all the tasty nutrients and fats are, so be sure to start eating those too.

Also based off what you are saying it doesn't look like you are eating much, it may just be that you need to up your calories.

Ok mr. griff here's my typical menu.

I start the day at 8am with 4 egg whites + 1 yolk and an apple or orange. I also have two cups of green tea. At about twelve i'll eat a large steak, or fish, or a whole chicken breast (three days per week i also eat half a hand of walnuts). Then at 4 i'll eat a salad with 2-3 vegetables in it and at eight another salad and about two ounces of said lunch. Then i have another cup of green tea. That's about it.

EDIT-forgot to mention, my salads always have enough olive oil in them

Cutting back on my daily apple , wouldn't that make me get dizzy like daily, exactly as i did on atkins?

EDIT #2 i also drink about 12 cups of water through the day

You need way more fats than you're having. Eat the yolks of your morning eggs, for starters. Have some coconut oil in your green tea. At dinner, have something with fat and protein. You're simply not eating enough of the right foods - it's no wonder you're dizzy all the time. You're also eating a lot of times during the day, which is probably causing an insulin response over and over again. That can cause your blood sugar to spike and drop over and over, which is not good for you.

What vegetables are in your salads?

tomato, cucumber, lettuce, green bell peppers, onions, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli

I'll take you up on eating more fats and less times per day but larger servings, for some days and i will report back, thanks for your suggestions. Do you think i should eat more protein too?

I should mention that i jog / walk for about half an hour and lift weights for an hour daily.

Cut out the carrots and the tomatoes for now. They're just too high in sugar. Cut out your morning apple or orange - that's priming your body for the rest of the day to expect carbs, and it's not getting them. Those fruits are basically just candy, and not good for you. Replace them with bacon, sausage, or some other protein.

Speaking of which, yes, you should definitely eat more protein. Your calorie breakdown should be 70 - 80% of your calories from fat, 20-30% from protein, and minimal carbs, under 20g a day.

You're also doing a lot of exercise. You may want to look into Mark's criticisms of chronic cardio and chronic exercise, because you're probably overdoing it. Mark says he exercises maybe three hours a week (check out reason #1 here: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/10-re...me/#more-10681) - you're doing more than three times that.

And get your blood sugar checked, because this sounds like you have a diabetic condition - maybe hypoglycemia - and that's nothing to monkey with.
