Hey, Ecks, does that mean you get severance? My brother and his wife were planning on quitting a company they were unhappy with (already had another job lined up) and then they got fired, which was the best thing that could have happened to them.

Anyway, glad to hear you're out from under all that stress.

Nice!! On vacay then laid off, sounds great, ahaha... But seriously, I've never really been in your position as I've been self-employed my entire adult life, since junior year of uni. But, it sounds like you have the right attitude, elation, & also you now have some breathing room, with severance, where you can dream again, & then can strategize on what you really want to do with your professional life... Congrats on this grand opportunity man! Enjoying your journal btw...

Hey Ecks, so glad you're shot of a job that was wearing away on you! Glad you got the severance and trust that you will be able to find a job soon. I like the idea of rethinking what you want to do and dream a little... Will be praying for the right way to open up in front of you - something that will fuel the Grok in you and use the skills you already have... so glad that you are feeling positive about this!

Great news on losing the crap job! Not too long ago I had a job so horrible I tried to get fired...but they wouldn't fire me...I did get off my @ss and find a better one - leaving that job was almost the happiest day of my life.

Hey All! Thanks for the awesome responses! I love that through everything you all come through as a strong and supportive group!

As a quick update- I think I've been busier this week then I've had in forever. Straight after the layoff on monday I went and picked up a cell, tuesday I dragged my buddy to get out of the house as he had not really left since being laid off the week before (we went cell shopping for him and grabbed some lunch), then went to my church to set up audio for a band practice; wednesday I worked on my resume, grabbed lunch with the same buddy again as well as a buddy who is trapped in rim's walls, worked on my linkedin profile and my resume; thursday I applied for a cruse ship job with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines; grabbed lunch with my cousin gord (also still at rim), went to communitech to meet some startup folks who may need some work done then went back to the church for another band practice; friday I spent with a friend in toronto- we grabbed breakfast, went to casa loma (huge castle in the middle of the city), grabbed dinner, roamed the streets for a bit then came home, then I drove back out to a buddies place in cambridge; saturday was chore and market day, then went to my church to actually put on the event that the band has been practicing for all week, and that brings me to today right now where I'm laying in bed for now but will soon be getting up to go to church then to go see my buddy and we're headed to the caribbean food festival in the park! Woo! I don't think I was ever this occupied when working!

And to boot it's time for a much overdue food journal

Yesterday was a long and busy day so I only had time for 1 meal... but what a meal!

Eggs benny on tomato with Bacon, Coconut tortillas, concord grapes, raspberries, and pickles

Got in all of my supplements and I was on my feet/walking in spurts for about 6 hours so that covers exercise. All in all I'd say that I'm holding together just fine!

Oh! Sidebar, been monitoring my weight... it's been semi plateauy but I expect it to move again. I realized that with all that's been going on this month I didn't set weight goals. That being said I've got a milestone coming up that I will be pushing hard to hit by first sunday of september. I'll set a new goal at that point.

And I'm out! Have a great day all!

How were those coconut tortillas? I've been considering trying them. I made some out of tapioca. Functional, good for wrapping, but kind of rubbery.

Wow, I am really inspired by reading what you have done since the layoff - I wish I could use your story to inspire my friend, who curled up into a fetal position for 18 months after being laid off from a terrible job. Everything I said to her was wrong during that time!

Been meaning to try those tortillas -

Hey Judg, The coconut tortillas were good a little flaky but they held up just ok. My tip- flip them once and once only, I have a 3rd (that I haven't eaten yet) that I moved way too much and there are some noticeable break lines and probably won't make it as a tortilla (maybe as a pancake?? hmm.. mmm...) but yes, 4 egg whites, quarter cup coconut flour... and water to help the mixture stick. It worked well for this breakfast becasue I used the egg yolks to make the hollandaise sauce.

Siobhan- hope your friend is holding up ok now. I know a lot of people who were working around me are still trying to pick up the pieces... I myself am working hard at keeping everything going myself. Guess I don't really have a choice but to trek forward.

    Food for yesterday

Late lunch at caribbean food festival- Curried oxtail, salad, redbeans and rice. I used hotsauce as my salad dressing and really on everything else.

After food fest- grabbed a scoop of icecream from a creamary in town that makes their own. Mint chocolate! It's been forever since I've done that. Soo good!

Late supper- Smorgus board of guac, pork rinds, 2 different cheeses (goats milk and havarti), cherizo sausage, lunch meat, pistachios and a bit of trail-mix.
