I too was once quite the soda addict. Got sick of going through so much canned artificial crap so decided to make my own. Built a carbonation rig myself out of a 20LB CO2 tank & beer regulator and now I carbonate my own water & flavored beverages for pennies a bottle.

Many of the cheaper brands found in typical grocery stores do taste quite disgusting (and typically use low grade ingredients) but there certainly are delicious and quality options out there. Local supplement stores often will have samples of various flavors available, although the best prices will definitely be found online.

I'd recommend going this route. One thing that I like is a scoop of whey, plus some frozen fruit(add some milk or water to desired consistency when blending - cinnamon and other things optional). Instead of frozen fruit, you could certainly go with coffee or any other flavor of your choice. If you get whey, the purists here will recommend unflavored - if you want something that's already flavored I would tend to favor vanilla, as it's more "neutral" and can be blended with a lot of things without tasting awful. Plain chocolate tastes okay in some blends too - but a lot of the "fancier" flavors from cheaper brands tend to taste, not suprisingly, like a bunch of chemicals.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions guys!

The last few days I've started keeping a food diary so I can actually see the break down of what I'm eating. It's been really helpful. I also have concocted a drink I like almost as much as soda. It's simple but gets the job done...

Tea -- usually a berry flavored one
    Water
    Stevia
    Lemons
Splash of POM (breakdown is 1TB a glass)

Nothing fancy but it's refreshing, tastes GREAT, and is waaaay less sugar than I was dealing with before. I also limit myself to two glasses a day. So far so good. I'm trying to kick caffeine as I'm taking a DCI supplement that can be countered by caffeine intake.

I used to love Bolthouse drinks, especially the vanilla one (this was way back when I was still eating soy).

The green one, I remember being tasty.

But I wouldn't touch 'em now! Eat some fruit. Get a good quality protein powder. Make your own green smoothie:

    Coconut milk
1 - 2 handfuls of spinach or kale
    Couple raspberries, blueberries
    Coconut oil
    Maybe cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla

    Blend. Drink. YUM!

The Bolthouse Farms stuff is certainly less fake than Twinkies, but if you these things, you'll definitely benefit from making your own smoothies. Here's my oft-repeated recipe:

    2 cups berries
    1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
    1/2 cup coconut milk
    3 scoops whey powder
    1 tablespoon honey OPTIONAL
    14 oz hot green tea.

Makes three smoothies. ~20g protein, 25 g carb, ~300 calories each. Not bad if this is your entire meal.

Started Primal October 31, 2011, at a skinny fat 111.5 lbs.
Current weight: 101.5. lbs and holding steady. Spring yardwork here we come!
Co-worker 1: Needs to lose ~50. Now he wants to start Mayo Clinic Diet. Yeesh. Give it up, man.
Co-worker 2: Needed to lose ~55. Lost 20 from stress. Started Primal in Sept, lost 20 more, but gained 10 back on a carb spree. We're working on it.
