I lived car-free until I was 33. I've always lived near city centres.
I work in a village about 7 miles away, and the bus services out there are infrequent and I have to change buses in the city to get a bus to my nearest stop, a few hundred yards away, so this would be a horrible commute in the winter. It's an easy 20 to 25-minute commute by car as I don't have to pass through the city centre and I'm going against the rush-hour traffic. I find the drive relaxing as I pass lots of beautiful trees, and a few fields with grass-grazing cows and sheep.
I really must resurrect my regular lunchtime 2 km walks instead of spending my lunch hour reading this forum, especially if the summery weather finally arrives tomorrow, as forecast, after two months of mostly cold, wet and windy weather.
Yes, so I am playing catch-up too, on 261 km as of 20 May. I think I can just about complete the challenge, as I only joined it in early February and I usually walk a lot more from late spring through to early autumn.
Good luck everybody!
