Another 6 km this morning. Trying to walk more often for a while to catch up on my own goal.

Don't think we could do without a car. We live 4 km from the nearest shops in our little town. Nearest butcher is 15 km away. Have to travel over 100 km for major stores or health food places. But love living in the country all the same.

I lived without a car for about 8 years. But I lived close to the supermarket, doc, bus stop etc. so it was really easy. Plus I just had to care for myself. I didn't walk much during that time, but I used my bike for almost everything. Only when we had ice and snow I used the bus. I don't like riding my bike now. It's still a thing that brings me quick from A to B, but nothing that I enjoy much...

My husband and I share one vehicle ... It works because he only goes to the office one day per week, my commute is under two miles, and we live in a smallish town.

    Great progress everyone!

I'm up to 290.6 as of this afternoon. Considering I should be up to about 400 km by this time of year to be on target, clearly I've got lots of work to do! I really want to achieve the 1000 km, so will have to be a little more disciplined and stop finding convenient excuses ....

I lived car-free until I was 33. I've always lived near city centres.

I work in a village about 7 miles away, and the bus services out there are infrequent and I have to change buses in the city to get a bus to my nearest stop, a few hundred yards away, so this would be a horrible commute in the winter. It's an easy 20 to 25-minute commute by car as I don't have to pass through the city centre and I'm going against the rush-hour traffic. I find the drive relaxing as I pass lots of beautiful trees, and a few fields with grass-grazing cows and sheep.

I really must resurrect my regular lunchtime 2 km walks instead of spending my lunch hour reading this forum, especially if the summery weather finally arrives tomorrow, as forecast, after two months of mostly cold, wet and windy weather.

Yes, so I am playing catch-up too, on 261 km as of 20 May. I think I can just about complete the challenge, as I only joined it in early February and I usually walk a lot more from late spring through to early autumn.

    Good luck everybody!
