I'm actually the opposite of you - I find Janet Lansbury a little over the top (though, in theory, she sort of has the right idea in SOME circumstances), and I find Elimination Communication kind of amusing. We practice EC ourselves but we're not wackadoo about it, we also use cloth AND disposable diapers. Every family just does what fits them best.

I found this interactive birth-plan template online yesterday. I created one using it but I think I'll run it by my Bradley instructor before talking to my midwife.

Thankyou so much! I love this, I already made mine up and printed it out.

BTW I am halfway through reading Ina May's Book. It is wonderful, and full of so many facts I didnt know, and I consider myself fairly educated about biology and the human body. Really very very reassuring book, delves into great detail about how everything works and why. I love the fact that she explains things in a real context and shuts down movies, television shows that negatively portray childbirth to be an overwhelmingly painful and horribly unnatural process that no woman should ever endure without some kind of complete pain suppression.
    highly highly recommended!!

Hey MaBa, great idea! We aren't expecting yet, but hope to start trying in less than a year. I'm reading all I can now to prepare, and to distract myself from wanting a baby NOW lol.

The Business of Being Born is absolutely amazing!!! I highly recommend it. Question, did you buy it or find it free somewhere? I watched in on Rogers On Demand but now it isn't up and I want to show friends. Thanks

    My favorite birth book:
Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering by Dr. Sarah Buckley--a fantastic resource with scientific studies on common birth interventions and their risks and the amazing birth stories of her four children--all homebirths, one unassisted and a lotus birth (allowing the cord to drop off naturally.)

Hello everyone, I am new to these forums, although I've followed MDA (and a basically primal lifestyle) for a couple of years now. My husband and I are about to start trying for our first child, and I'm a little bit panicked about dealing with the medical system. Does anyone have any recommendations for good ob/gyns, birthing centers or midwives, pediatricians, etc. in the Jersey City or New York City area? I'm hoping to have a minimal intervention sort of pregnancy and birth, and I don't want to have to fight the doctors in order to do that.

SarahRingo, I have no specific recs for your area, BUT I would encourage you to look into the possibility of homebirth. If you have a low risk pregnancy it may be the least intervention laden kind of pregnancy and birth possible. I loved having a homebirth w/ an amazing midwife and would recommend to anyone that it's an option worth researching to see if it's right for you! Good luck with everything! Very exciting!!
