At this point you can increase your dosage by 1 drop a week until you get to 10 drops, then switch over to iodoral to titrate u by 1/2 capsule a week. This may seem too slow, but we do try to avoid detox symptoms.

Good luck to you in getting pregnant. Yes continue taking iodine at whatever dose you were taking, but do not increase dosage before getting pregnant. The reason is that Detox symptoms should be avoided to protect the baby, so it is a good idea to stay put at your 12.5mg with required supplements until after the baby is born. The good news is that adequate iodine levels you are getting will help sharpen your baby's IQ, prevent ADHD, help the embryo and greatly help your breasts. Your breasts will need every drop of iodine they can get especially if you plan to breast feed. Iodine in Mothers Milk helps give baby an extra boost in good health.

    Yahoo Iodine Group says,

So you are clearly safe being at 12.5 mg and have already been taking supplements.

Thanks! Yes, I plan to breast feed.... will stick at 12.5 mg & see what happens / how I feel throughout the process!

Grizz, that's great news about the hair regrowth! I had read that about iodine before. I hope it's true, because in the past month I have been shedding a really excessive amount of hair. After doing some research, I think it might be due to my ADHD med (Vyvanse). Even though I was taking it for almost 4 months before this shedding began. I'm trying to go for a chunk of time without it, but it's been rough going the past few days. Especially as it was masking the depression that I've been dealing with off and on for the past several months. Though I've been through some bouts of depression since I was a teenager, it's never hung around this long, or gotten as dark and negative as it's been at times recently. The ONLY thing I've been able to connect it to was getting the rest of my mercury fillings removed (they were the biggest ones, too). No special precautions were taken, I just asked to get them taken out and replaced with the white composite. It was like a lightning bolt struck the day that I thought the depression might be due to the mercury fillings. I checked out mercury toxicity to see if I was on to something, and sure enough, I was!
I have a feeling it's going to be a long journey with me and iodine, but hopefully I'll start to see some benefits without having to go through too much detox!
I'll just have to keep reminding myself that the way out, is through.

    @@Paleo Girl,
Indeed, a thick head of hair was the last thing I expected. I've added a BUNCH of new links in the chapter HAIR in our references guide. You might like them. You are lucky in so many ways to be taking iodine supplements. Your recent depression is a symptom of too much detox and you have that now under control. Also you are in luck again because iodine is said to remove mercury & heavy metal toxicity. You can help speed that process along by taking chlorella tablets. Chlorella binds to heavy metals to prevent them from being re-absorbed into the intestines.

Vyvanse? WOW! WOW! WOW! I just did a google,"Vyvanse Side Effect Hair Loss" and got 728,000 hits ! Guess what else? Over 1 million hits on a google of Vyvanse Class Action Lawsuit. So it looks like you are correct, your hair loss is clearly tied to vivanse. If you want to have fun, look up the side effects of Viagra - HORRIBLE ! I would rather become a Monk than take Viagra.

Should you have taken any precautions before removing your mercury fillings? I have a bunch of those in my teeth. What do you think I should do? Leave well enough alone or replace them with white composite?

Thanks for the feedback. I hope that works out well for you and others. I have struggled with that piece before, and I'm happy to finally get it right. I don't want to see anyone getting xx lbs of bloat & a puffed up zit filled face from excessive detox.

Lingering depression may well be liked with mercury detox after the removal. A removal will release a lot of mercury as gas which the patient then inhale...

Selenium is one of the things that may help a mercury detox....

Be careful. Removal releases more mercury than leaving old, stable and whole fillings alone. So if you decide to remove make a plan first. And - if possible - go to a dentist that use coffer dam and go by a safe mercury removal procedure so that you don't swallow any of the stuff...

In addition - take selenium at least 200mcg/day at least a week before and some days after.

I'm intrigued to read about SSKI being used to clear mucous. But it is different from Lugols? I've had a lot of mucous lately - I think it is oilseed rape pollen which affects my asthma badly each year when it flowers. My 2 drops of 3% Lugols that I take daily may be helping to cough it out but would SSKI be better?

I am only up to page 6 on reading this thread, but I have a question. I never clicked on this thread before, because I am one that if I hear a supplement is suppose to be good for you, I buy it, so I was thinking... ugghh one more thing.... :P

But I am intrigued. I see I can order kelp noodles if I can't find them in my store. I have never looked. I am not sure how much to eat to equal just taking a supplement. Cost wise, they look like they could add up rather quickly.

Okay my question is though, ppl mention taking supplements only if you have a deficiency. Can I just go to the doctor and do some kind of standard test that would check for deficiencies in all areas or do you have to specifically test for this and this and this. Since I do supplement, I would hope I am not deficient in too many things, so I don't know how to gauge what I already take and if they are the reason I might not show up as deficient, but iodine is not one of them. I guess there is a little in my Multi-V but sounds like might not be enough. I don't use salt often, but I have been recently using sea salt because I don't think I am getting any from too many other sources these days. In fact, I just looked at my tracking, and if 2300 is the recommended, I am only getting half to 1/3 of that daily.

So anyways, just wondering what all I need to have checked out at the doctor's office.

Thanks Grizz, Last night I did the iodine test on my arm, it was gone in four hours. I ordered all the recommended vitamins and Lugols 2% from Amazon.
