Thread: List your "favorite" CW myths page

    I figure we all have at least one or two (or seven or twelve or eighteen) CW myths that we have to debunk when we talk to those who can't understand going Primal. I'd like to make a comprehensive-ish list of them so we can all share our best debunking strategies, what say?


    Here's some that really make me want to scream:


    1. Dietary fat makes you fat.

    2. You need to eat lots of fiber to have proper digestion.

    3. There are good carbs (whole wheat, other grains) and bad carbs (candy, ice cream, chocolate).

    4. Meat will rot in your intestinal tract and cause cancer.

    5. Diabetics have high blood sugar because they eat fatty foods.

    6. Cholesterol is the cause of heart disease.

    7. Red meat is the cause of heart disease.

    8. Saturated fat and trans fats are the same thing (and the cause of heart disease).

    9. Exercising more will cause you to lose weight faster.

    10. Weight is the first and best measure of overall health.


    That's just off the top of my head. Anyone else want to take a crack at this?

    Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

    Eat less, exercise more.

    Eat low-glycemic index foods.

    Eat a balanced diet (usually balance is undefined).

    Eat complex carbs and avoid simple carbs.

    Eat a low-fat diet.

    Eat many small meals frequently during the day and avoid long periods without eating.

    Eat breakfast for your main meal everyday.

    Eat the small light meal in the evening.

    Exercise more, eat less.

    But there ARE good carbs and bad carbs - just that good carbs = veggies/fruits/nuts/realfood and bad carbs = all grains/sugar/etc.


    9. Exercising more will cause you to lose weight faster.


    If you add "because you burn calories" then yeah, stupid CW... exercise probably will cause you to lose weight faster, but because of hormonal stuff and because it helps with insulin sensitivity, not because of calories burned.


    Sorry being picky this morning. Blame it on the fetus.


    It might not be CW but it's still stupid as heck - the dad I work for is really into "The Zone" and thinks you NEED protein every 6 hours on the clock in order to function... I asked him (maybe a little sarcastically - but can you blame me?) if he wakes up in the middle of the night to eat some protein. He said no but that he eats some right before bed and as soon as he gets up. WTF?

    Eating lots but still hungry? Eat more fat. Mid-day sluggishness? Eat more fat. Feeling depressed or irritable? Eat more fat. People think you've developed an eating disorder? Eat more fat... in front of them.

    Anything Marion Nestle says about diet and nutrition. She's so wrong so often, and she of all people should totally know better by now.

    1. Skipping meals slows down your metabolism and will cause you to gain weight.


    2. Replace 1 meal with Special K and you'll lose 6 pounds in 2 weeks.


    3. You need whole grains to keep you full and regular


    4. Using BMI as a measurement


    5. Weigh yourself daily


    6. Cardio is the best way to lose weight fast

    - Breakfast is the most important meal of the day


    - Moderation in all things


    - Paleo/Primal/low-carb eating is a "fad diet"


    - Butter/Cream/fatty meat is heavy/fattening food, but cereal/bread is light/feelgood food.


    - Vegetarian diets are very healthy.


    - You will mess yourself up by going 24-48 hours without food
