Galloway Method = chronic cardio?
For a number of months now, I have been using the Jeff Galloway method of running (the "Run-Walk-Run" method) to train for various races. I generally use a ratio of 4 to 5 running to 1 minute of walking. Using this system, I have trained for and ran both a half and full marathon....enjoying the ride and minimum recovery time. An hour after running the marathon, we were out and about the city...walking, shopping and eating .
I generally run 3 days a week...one day of tabata sprints, a day of moderate distance (4-5 miles) and a Sunday long run of 6-10 miles (except when marathon training). I also workout out 2-3 times a week...doing intense, heavy lifting for no longer than 20-25 minutes. I take one complete rest day a week unless I feel tired or especially unmotivated.
Since the Galloway method discourages fast continuous running and focuses on easy runs, I would have a hard time seeing this method of training as "chronic cardio". What do you think?
