Yes - unfortunately - the thickening waistline is totally normal. I'm 51 and post menopausal, and I have it too. I can't remember the name of the hormone - but once the estrogen decreases we have another hormone that starts flowing - I call it the old lady hormone - it actually causes weight gain through the middle. SO not fair!

Are there any ways of fighting it? Specific exercises or whatever? It's just the last month I've noticed this. It was very annoying to have outfits that had just started looking good on me start looking bad, in spite of the fact I was not gaining. Gack!

Other than that, I'll just generally try to keep losing weight and improving my fitness.

At least my face looks better, LOL!

Oh, any chance this same hormone will prevent my boobs from shrinking? I mean, there's got to be a silver lining somewhere, right?

My waist is super small currently, 23-24 inches most days, due to eating high fat/no carb 3 days a week the last almost 3 months. I eat a lot of butter on my no carb days which has helped balance my hormones a lot, my periods other than some mood swings are pain free. However my boobs have filled back out to a big C cup so I look like a miniature Barbie doll.

You can't "spot lose" weight, you can only lose fat overall, so overall fitness and fat loss will help. Eating according to PB helps regulate hormones, as far as I'm aware and have experienced, so it will probably help overall with fat distribution and "boob control", but I'm sure there are a lot of aging effects that are unavoidable.

LOL! You are a great encouragement. Ahem.

I know spot control doesn't generally work, but I figured if I can put it on selectively, maybe I could take it off selectively.

I've never been particularly "hormonal", no or very little PMS, no post-partum depression, no crazy mood swings, so I was kind of hoping I'd get off easy in the menopause department too.

As for effects of aging, older woman do tend to be a little heavy on top, so maybe that will provide a bit of balance for the thicker waist. Or so I am hoping.

I think there was a thread back maybe 6 months, talking about how a lot of the women were losing weight every where BUT their boobs. Mine really haven't changed at all, despite weight swings of around 15 pounds due to me occasionally eating crap I don't want to admit to.

    So... yes, there IS hope.

I'm totally enjoying this funny conversation! Judg - you are splendid addition to our thread! I have to say --- my vanity is making this getting older thing very painful for me. Everything is going to hell in a handbasket and there isn't a whole lot I can do about it. Misery likes company though - so I'm taking much comfort in knowing I'm not the only one with a thicker waist, sagging/shriveling boobs, and all that goes with being over 50.

On vacation last year (cruise in the Carribean) there was a 65ish looking gal in a BIKINI! She was very dark tanned, and a little "leathery" looking, but overall was in dang good shape for a gal her age, her skin was sagging a bit and her hair was colored ---- but the funny part was the way her old-lady boobs simply "puddled" in the cups of her push-up bikini top! There was no firmness left in them so it looked like they were just poured into the cups. HA! But hey --- she had the nerve to put on a bikini so I was in awe! I wanted to talk to her, but she didn't look very approachable. I'll never forget her...........

I've been doing a lot of reading about adrenal fatigue. I called the doc this morning and I have an appt in 2 weeks to have a good going over! She wants to check adrenals and thyroid. I'm hoping that will help fix the problematic lack of weight loss. So, I won't be doing the IFing again until I know about the adrenals. It wasn't helping anyway. I started taking Quercetin in hopes it will help bring down my cholesterol.

My boobs have definitely shrunk. And they feel looser, too. Like empty bags. Sorry that's not very encouraging.

Hehe sorry! I'm only 23, the topic is far from personal for me yet.

But RitaRose is right, there've been a lot of women who say that their breast size remains unchanged as they lose weight on PB. Wasn't true for me, but mine have always been small and I'm young yet.

Balti Butter Chicken for dinner! I don't even miss the rice is should be sitting in. Any India food lovers out there? My husband was a missionaries son and lived in India till he was 9. His parents spent the better part of 36 years there --- so India food is the norm in this family. We eat lots of curries, biryanies, vindaloos, and we drink a lot of chai! The real stuff - not the faux chai they make at the coffee shops. I've had to get used to not eating rice, naan, and many other wonderful things but I don't miss them too much. Well, I miss the naan a LOT!
