    BulletProof Coffee

    Primal Blueprint Expert Certification
    Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster so be a bit gentle!!!

I have been on the wagon for 3 weeks tomorrow. So far have lost over 7kg(15lb) and feeling good.
I first heard of this concoction a couple of days ago and tried it over the weekend. Loved it. As a start I used a little less butter than what was mentioned and also some heavy cream.
My question is if you don't have the suggested oil would it be ok to use coconut or macadamia oil as a replacement.
Also, in the article it is mentioned to use 80g of butter which is a hell of a lot, does anyone else use a similar amount?

    Ta.

When I first started PB, I thought that eating a lot more fat in general was odd, but one gets used to this quickly. Coconut oil and Macadamia Oil are just fine to consume. You could also add some Extra Virgin Olive Oil to that list.

When first starting out, eat lots of fat and a good amount of protein to keep you satiated between meals. In 2-4 weeks you'll be fully adapted to this way of eating and wonder why you didn't start this sooner.

    Keep us posted.

I just started making this on Friday myself (we must have seen the same thread). Loving it. I am also putting about 1/2 tbl spoon of Coconut oil in it. Using the Magic Bullet to mix it....

I personally would go for the coconut oil. Heating nut oils is just a bad idea.

For those who came into this thread wanting to know what bulletproof coffee was (cause seriously that's an awesome word combination) and then getting sad faced like me when the original poster did not put anything about in the post, here you go: Recipe: How to Make Your Coffee Bulletproof...And Your Morning Too | The Bulletproof Executive

Thanks Rivvin! I'm the guy who invented the stuff - the combination of 80g of grass fed UNSALTED butter plus 20-30 grams of MCT oil is right for me - but I'm 210lbs, muscular, and I am burning the candle at both ends but keeping it from getting shorter using nutrition. (that's the whole point of the blog!). Bulletproof Coffee is amazingly powerful stuff, but to do it right, you need beans that are free of commonly-formed toxins that happen during the fermentation process. Those mycotoxins have psychoactive effects and contribute to the jittery feeling and headaches from common coffee. I have posts like this one about how to find the best (cleanest) beans in your town on the site, and I finally located a reliable source of properly processed beans designed to have the lowest level of toxins.

Coconut oil isn't ideal because it wont' froth up like butter or even ghee will in a blender. You can have 30% coconut oil with butter and it works, but coconut oil is only about 15% caprylic and capric triglycerides, which is why I use this MCT oil that's highest in those fractions.

So I notice it isn't Barefoot Roasters (another Silicon Valley person here). Are there problems with their beans? Just curious since I've been drinking their coffee for years. They have lots of single origin stuff, don't roast too dark, etc.

I do love Barefoot, but I may just have to give Red Rock a try.

Funny, I had no idea what bulletproof coffee was either. Now I find out it's basically the same as the butter coffee I've been making nearly every morning (morphed from Tibetan butter tea). Tasty stuff.
Started PB late 2008, lost 50 lbs by late 2009. Have been plateaued, but that thing may just be biting the dust: more on that later.
