To succeed at this for life, you can't rely on a flimsy emotion like motivation. You have to rely on habit and just do it. Nike was onto something with that slogan.

Habit instead of emotion. I never really put into words like that, but it makes a lot of sense to me. I like it.

I agree, it's not something I am motivated to do, I do it out of habit, and because I know it's the only way I can be my best. You might if anything say my motivation is that I do it because I like to be at optimum performance levels.

I read somewhere recently a phrase that summed up as... "If you're working toward a dream, then everything you do becomes part of getting closer to that dream." and I find that to be the case with my eating.

I'm a singer. Eating well keeps me (including my singing bits) healthier. Being better looking will help me land parts and jobs, and having the energy to spare is helping in a hundred ways. That doesn't mean I never slip, but it makes keeping the habit fit a lot better in my mind.

Zig Ziglar says motivation is a lot like a shower, you need both everyday.

I only had one goal in life, to see the United States collapse back into civil war, or see the tricentennial (2076), which ever comes first. So longevity and health will help me realize my goal.

I'm also motivated by health, wealth, love and success. Fat sick people, like my former self, have a hard time getting those things.

Motivation is only a part of the 'getting the thing done' question for me, the rest of it is pretty much made out of brute stubbornness!
Do what you love and do it often. If you don't like something, change it. if you don't like your job, quit. If you don't have enough time, stop watching tv. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop, they will be waiting for you when you start doing the things you love. Stop over analyzing, life is simple. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Some opportunities only come once, seize them.

If you enjoy what you are doing, and look forward to doing it as much as possible, is that motivation?

If you don't enjoy doing what you are doing, why not?

I don't really believe in motivation. I do believe that I'm too stuborn to give up when things are hard and that turns into habit.

It's the small things. It's everytime you say no to that thing that is bad, everytime you say yes to what is good and continueing to do so day in, day out.
