You don't need clean bones to make broth by the way - just throw in whatever you have left - bones, meat and all with a little apple cider vinegar (1-2 TB). The vinegar helps to leach minerals out of the bones. You can re-use bigger bones (like beef or bison) also a few times. Just keep adding more ACV and water and let it go again. A crock pot makes things much easier for the long running batches. The bones get quite brittle after 2-3 runs through (I give 'em to my dogs and they crunch them right up).

I don't know much about hep C either, so until you get your test back, it's just sit and wait. If it is positive, try the seach functiion here to see if there is an existing thread with advice or start a new one if not. Along with that, I'd google for more info and see what else is out there.
I see. I had always had the understanding that bones from "clean" grass-fed animals were where all the benefits were. I have several chicken bones (legs/thighs) that I saved in the freezer. They are organic but I had wondered if chicken was as good as beef broth.

Good news: No Hep A, B, or C
Bad news: I still don't know what's wrong and how to fix it.

    (WARNING: Rant ahead)

Either I'm a very entitled person or doctors are jerks.

From what I understand Hep C is a serious disease. I can't help feeling it is extremely insensitive not to personally call me and tell me that I was fine. I had to call a number and listen to a pre-recorded message of the doctor telling me my results were negative, not giving me the chance to ask any other questions that pertain to my health. It feels as if he's saying "oh you don't have anything serious so I have no other interest in you. Bye"

He sent me maybe 5-6 different papers in the mail a few weeks ago to fill out, one of which was the symptom page. And he never talked to me about it. My symptoms are REAL! It's not imagined! Are you interested in trying to help me figure out what's going on? Just because I don't have a serious disease doesn't mean I'm not actually in pain or that it's some figment of my imagination.

...Happy I don't have Hep C or anything else (not that I ever had the chance to ask.) But where does this leave me? I don't want to waste my time with physicians who only see me as an opportunity to turn me into a pincushion or dope up with pills.

I'll do my best to take care of myself and do more but I am still left feeling helpless about my IBS.

Got back from the same GI specialist.
This time I was able to sort of spew out all of my problems and concerns.
He told me to take Miralax and Align everyday.
And he has scheduled a fluoroscopy for me on Friday (I think to rule out Chron's?)

I can't say I am happy to have to take anything that alludes to "laxatives" because I think my body should be able to heal enough to do what it should on it's own. I will TRY IT...and I hear it doesn't cause dependence but I still don't want to take laxatives. And I don't want to have to keep taking it.

I'm starting to feel upset with myself at not being able to be one step ahead of doctors.

The doctor did not explain to me what a fluoroscopy was. All I heard was the word X-ray but he never explained the whole procedure, what it involved, what to expect, how long it would take....I shouldn't have to look up this stuff! I didn't even know enough to decline. Now I don't know if I should go through with it or not.

    whatever...no one is listening...

I had my fluoroscopy Friday. Drinking that nasty chalk solution was sickening but the good news is there was nothing abnormal that showed up. Which hopefully means treating my IBS will be easier.

A while ago I went to the bathroom. (Yeah this may get to be TMI) and for the first time in possibly years, if it at all, I had a "smooth" trip to the bathroom. I want to say it's a 4-5 on the Bristol chart. I barely noticed I'd done anything. I wonder if it's because oaf the Align and Miralax. The doc has me taking a dose of each daily...but truth be told I haven't been eating Primal, especially not within the last few days. Gotta remedy that. We'll see how this goes. I'm not going very frequently. It's still been at least 3 days before I have the urge to go but at least it's not involving straining or anything.

Continuing with the Align but I'm not sure I want to go on with Miralax..at least not everyday.

Gotta get my eating on track.

Sometimes I want to throw it all out the window and go have some Pop Tarts.

I am glad to see you are keeping on. The hep C fiasco was bizarre. I would have wanted to have the doctor's head on a pike outside the castle gates for such a scare.

I started primal a year and a half ago, and while I am not close to my goal, I am much closer than if I had never started at all.
    "Wait! I'll fix it!"
"Problems always disappear in the presence of a technician."
"If you can't improvise, what are you doing out in the field?"

I don't know about you but when you have IBS, throwing things out of the window usually can result in pain.

Yeah I still feel pretty ticked about that situation. Can't believe it.

My eating is SO SO off right now. Barely any vegetables, not a lot of variety in terms of protein or recipes. I guess I had gotten sick (no pun intended) of focusing so much of my energy into this. I haven't been able to get into a comfortable pattern yet.

Well I think I can honestly say the sore lead-gut feeling and the cramps have seemed to lessen. At times I do get bloated but haven't been able to identify the cause. Definitely need to step it up on eating more, with more variety.

I'm having mixed feelings about the Miralax/Align although I think it's more so the Miralax. TMI Time. Proceed with caution.
I'm definitely not constipated right now. No hard pellets. But I can't say I'm having a movement everyday. Perhaps 2 days or every other day. Which is fine I guess. As long as I don't feel the stuff is just sitting inside me like that. The stools around, I'd say, between Type 4 and Type 5 on the Bristol chart. I'd rather have it be the former because it is REALLY hard to get completely clean. The color is not what I'd expect either. Very pale. If I can be so descriptive (read: graphic) they remind me of tapeworms and I can pass them very easily, barely feeling them. But it's never one completely piece. At first it was (even though it wasn't like Type 4.)

I don't know. Constipation has been my normal so it's hard to get used to this, especially when I dislike the idea of diarrhea more than constipation. (I have always been grateful I never had IBS-D). I'm slotted to see the doctor again this Friday for a follow up. I'm no longer taking the Miralax (simply because I used up the bottle I got.) But I'm not planning to get another despite the doctor telling me to take it daily.

Still I wonder if the Align is having a hand in all this too.

Well Align is a probiotic and while I can't find the contents for Miralax online, I suspect it contains magnesium cirtrate as it says it draws water into the bowel. I'm pretty sure both of these were suggested to you earlier in your journal - glad it is helping. If you want to discontinue the miralax, then try magnesium citrate. Most people are low in magnesium anyway - I take it every night (mag. glycinate) as I have read that is the best time of day for it - in the evening.

I never tried a probiotic because I thought it was better suited for people with diarrhea. I had taken one at the request of a nutritionist (all natural Udi's) but I didn't feel different. And I didn't bother with Miralax because again, the thought of taking a laxative wasn't something I wanted to do (I see now it's not quite a laxative.)

All I know is Miralax is Polyethylene Glycol 3350. Not sure if this is even something from nature. Doesn't sound like it. But yeah I think it does draw water in (despite me not drinking as much as I should.) I took it in a drink though.

Thanks for the info on the magnesium. I'll research more on it. I see the doctor Friday. I'll mention it to him but he'll probably have little to say on that. He can't just say "take a vitamin" It has to be bloody super duper name brand stuff. But at least it's not a prescription drug.
