This thread did turn out pretty hilariously. If that's a word. I love Grok people.
No...no meat?
I always keep emergency rations of frozen horse meat and dried fish if I've no leftovers to tide me over to my next grocery trip.
Gah, I don't want to think about what would happen if I just ran out, full stop. Cannibalism here I come...
Hun, just eat something else. God didn't give us a bunch of veggies and fruit to look at and say geez, that's pretty, wish I had some meat right now.
Seriously though roast a bunch of veggies drenched in fat. Completely primal right there.
Sauteed veggies with parmesan or feta, sweet potatoes, avocado, potatoes, some rice maybe. Without protein it's best to fill up on starches, but it could just be that I eat enough to feed a small whale.
And it might not be a bad idea to keep some beans on hand for such an occasion. Rice + beans = complete protein, gluten-free and without resorting to lots of dairy. I believe potatoes, sweet potatoes, and avocados all have complete proteins too.
“The whole concept of a macronutrient, like that of a calorie, is determining our language game in such a way that the conversation is not making sense." - Dr. Kurt Harris
I've ran into this a few times lately, too broke to go shopping until payday. I tend to fast more (I actually skipped breakfast a couple days - unheard of, for me), and just focus on vege's and whatever fat I have around to keep me satiated.
A pile of broccoli, covered in coconut oil and some hot sauce, makes an acceptable dinner in the absence of protein. The same can be said for asparagus sauteed in garlic and butter.
On a particularly desperate day I did have a sliced apple dipped in almond butter. I remember having this knee-jerk reaction of "I need to do some research and find out how much fructose, omega6 and phytic acid I'm ingesting here..."; it was a good lesson in taking a deep breath and remembering Mark's post on not letting perfect be the enemy of good. If you can get by without resorting to grains or processed junk, I wouldn't beat yourself up.
